MICHEAL “MIKE” SHRUGER PASSED AWAY AT EXTENDICARE NURSING HOME, VULCAN ON NOVEMBER 25, 1990 AT THE AGE OF 86 YEARS.

MIKE IS SURVIVED BY TWO BROTHERS JOE AND HIS WIFE ANNA OF HARDISTY AND GEORGE AND HIS WIFE ROSE OF CAMROSE, FIVE SISTERS ROSE KORNATH, HELEN SELOVER, MARY (SID) PELLANT, ANNE (FRED) BORDEN, ALL OF EDMONTON AND KAY (TOM) WITCHEY OF CLIFTON CITY, NEW YORK AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER MICHAEL, MOTHER KATHLEEN, TWO BROTHERS JOHN AND MARTIN.

MIKE WAS BORN IN AUSTRIA SEPTEMBER 29, 1904 AND CAME WITH HIS PARENTS WHO HOMESTEADED IN THE DAYSLAND AREA IN 1913. THEY LATER MOVED TO THE HARDISTY AREA. HE LOVED THE LAND, SEEDING, HARVESTING, FRIENDS AND GOOD FUN. HE ALSO ENJOYED WORKING WITH HIS MANY FRIENDS IN THE BRITISH COLUMBIA LUMBER CAMPS.

MIKE CAME TO VULCAN IN 1930, ANSWERING A NEWSPAPER AD FOR FARM HELP. HE STARTED WORKING FOR JIM JAMISON, WHO HAD PLACED THE AD. EVENTUALLY HE PURCHASED LAND WEST OF VULCAN. HE RETIRED AND MOVED INTO VULCAN IN THE EARLY 1970’s. WHILE HIS HEALTH PERMITTED, HE WAS CALLED ON BY LOCAL FARMERS FOR EXTRA HELP DURING SEEDING AND HARVESTING OR TO CARE FOR THEIR FARMS WHEN THEY WERE AWAY. HE MOVE INTO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE AND THREE YEARS AGO, TO EXTENDICARE. MIKE LOVED CHILDREN AND ENJOYED VISITS FROM HIS NIECES AND FAMILY. HE ALSO ENJOYED BASEBALL, AND GOOD TIMES WITH FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS.

FUNERAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1990 AT 10:00 A.M. AT VULCAN FUNERAL HOME WITH FATHER GILLES LeBLANC OFFICIATING. CREMATION. INURNMENT TO FOLLOW AT A LATER DATE IN THE HARDISTY CEMETERY FAMILY PLOT.
