Louis Edward Shaw passed away May 27, 2009 at his home in Edmonton at the age of 85 years.
Louis was born on October 22, 1923 at Vulcan, youngest son of Frank and Marion Shaw. Louis grew up on the family homestead three miles west of Vulcan. He attended the Harvey School and later the Vulcan School. In 1943, Louis joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, became a trained navigator and reached London on VE Day. In 1946 he married Margaret G. Gerding and they set up their home one mile east of his parents farm and began farming. Louis worked some winters at Richardson & Gould as a tractor mechanic and later at the Vulcan Liquor Store.
Margaret and Louis could always be found together, whether is was dancing, combining, grocery shopping or traveling. Louis was a favorite of all of his nieces and nephews and he really loved his grandchildren and his great grandchild. They loved to go camping and explored all of BC and Alberta, some of the United States and made a couple of trips to Europe and the Holy Land. Louis was a member of the Drama Club, the Community Choir, the Historical Society, the Knights of Columbus and St. Andrew’s Catholic Parish. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
Louis is survived by his loving wife Margaret, two sons Michael (Margaret), Ted (Brenda), daughter Sheilah (Pam) Featherstone, seven grandchildren Michael, Sandra, Travis, Allen, Don, Cyndi and Grace, one great granddaughter Zoey, brother Stan (Dorothy), two sisters Frances Hudgeon, Bernice Heather, sister-in-law Margaret Shaw, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Louis was predeceased by his parents, his infant brother Joseph, two brothers Earl (Garnette) and Leslie, two sisters Marie and Pat (Mel) Ward, two brothers-in-law Phil Heather and Peel Hudgeon.
Prayers for the Faithful were held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Vulcan at 7:30 p.m. Mass of a Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Vulcan with Rev. Philip Van Tinh Le officiating.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
Honorary bearers were the Knights of Columbus.
Casket bearers were Ted Shaw, Travis Shaw, Raymond Shaw, Allen Featherstone, Don Featherstone and Michael Shaw.
