SHARKEY, GERALD PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT THE VULCAN EXTENDICARE ON JUNE 10, 1991 AT THE AGE OF 75 YEARS.

GERALD WAS BORN AT ST. PAUL, ALBERTA ON JANUARY 1, 1916 WHERE HE ATTENDED SCHOOL. IN 1939 HE JOINED THE ARMY AND SERVED OVERSEAS UNTIL RETURNING HOME IN 1944. HE BEGAN WORKING FOR THE CALGARY BREWERY IN 1948 WHERE HE WORKED HIS WAY UP TO A SUPERVISOR AT THE PLANT. HE PURCHASED A SMALL HOUSE IN VULCAN IN 1976 AND IN 1978 HE RETIRED AND MOVED TO VULCAN. IN 1985 HE MOVED TO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE AND IN 1989 TO THE EXTENDICARE.

GERALD ENJOYED HIS FAMILY, THE PEOPLE AND TIME IN VULCAN. THIS WAS HIS HOME, HE ALSO ENJOYED HIS TIME ALONE, HUNTING GEESE, FISHING AT LAKE MCGREGOR WHERE HE WOULD ALWAYS BRING HOME A FISH. HE ENJOYED COOKING. HIS SPECIALTY WAS BAKED BEANS FROM SCRATCH AND PANCAKES, WHICH HE WOULD ALWAYS COOK FOR VISITING FAMILY. HE WAS A LIFE MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION.

GERALD IS SURVIVED BY THREE LOVING SISTERS LILLIAN HRUSHKA OF ST. PAUL, MAY (TOM) PHILLIPS OF VERNON, B.C. AND BERTHA (MAURICE) BLANCHETTE OF PRINCE GEORGE, TWO BROTHERS HENRY (NOELLA) CHARTIER OF ST.PAUL AND BERTRAND SHARKEY OF COALMONT, B.C AND NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY FOUR BROTHERS DAMASE, OMER, LOUIS AND RAYMOND, TWO SISTERS MYRTLE WILLIAMS AND LORRAINE POLLOM AND HIS PARENTS WILFORD AND ANNIE.

FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO MEET AT ST. ANDREW’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, VULCAN FOR PRAYERS THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING AT 7:00 P.M. FUNERAL MASS ALSO AT ST. ANDREWS THURSDAY JUNE 13 AT 10:00 A.M., FR. GILLES LEBLANC CELEBRANT. INTERMENT, FIELD OF HONOUR, VULCAN CEMETERY.

HONOUR GUARD WERE MEMBERS OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH #21 VULCAN: BUGLER PETER PICKERSGILL.

PALLBEARERS WERE MAURICE BLANCHETTE, GRAHAM SCATTERGOOD, DAVID POLLOM, ROLAND CHARTIER, HERVE CHARTIER AND TOM PHILLIPS.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, IF FRIENDS SO DESIRE, DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO THE ALBERTA CANCER FOUNDATION 1331-29 ST. N.W. CALGARY T2N 4N2.
