SCOTT, Thora Elva  1919 – 2003

Thora Elva Scott, of Lethbridge passed away Tuesday, January 21st, 2003 at Lethbridge Extendicare at the age of 83.
Born in Cardston on March 1, 1919 to Ray & Velma Wellman who homesteaded on Boundary Creek, southwest of Cardston. Loving mother of her two children, LaRee (Bud) Groves of Rocky Mountain House and Robert (Sarah) Scott of Lethbridge, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by her foster brother Burton (Helen) Hingley of Lomond. Thora was predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents and her brother Vorece.
Thora moved to the Champion area with her family in 1926 after the farm on Boundary Creek was lost to the bank. She rode horse to school until moving into town to attend highschool.
Thora moved to Vancouver to study hairdressing and continued in this work in Fort Macleod until sensitivity to the chemicals forced her to give it up. She married Robert H. Scott in September 1939 in Fort Macleod. They first lived in Calgary where LaRee was born and later moved to a farm east of Carmangay, where Robert was born. In 1948 the family moved to their own farm on the old Ralph Gailey place NE of Majorville where they resided until Thora and Bob moved into Lethbridge in the late 1980’s.
Thora was active in the Farmer’s Women’s Union of Alberta and the Limousin Association. Also the Rebecca Lodge at Milo and her most loved, the Snake Valley Riding Club. She had a great passion for horses but not for racing.
Funeral services will be held at the Vulcan United Church on Friday, January 24th at 11 a.m with Lee Spice officiating. Interment to follow at 3:45 in Calgary at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Garden of Devotion.
