Gregory William Scott, of Mossleigh, passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on January 9, 2021 at the age of 68 years.
Greg was born to Marcus “Sonny” and Dorothy Scott on July 18, 1952, in the Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary, AB. He resided on the family farm near Mossleigh and was educated in Mossleigh and Vulcan. He belonged to the 4-H Calf Club, played a little hockey and baseball but mainly his love was airplanes, flying and farming. Of those, flying was his main passion. In the early years, he formed Sky Sports and set up shop at the airport in Claresholm and began a Jump School, a successful venture that carried on for a few years. He then turned his sights to another location and Beiseker became his new home for his Jump School.
Greg and his plane had the fortune of meeting some celebrities. The T.V. series “North of 60″ was his first adventure. When watching the series, if you were quick, you would see him at the helm of the plane getting ready to take off with some of the actors. He had the pleasure on another occasion to meet Jacques Cousteau and fly him in and out of Lac La Ronge, Northern SK. These were awesome times for Greg.
He then turned to life back at the farm and spent many early mornings crop spraying. All in all, Greg traveled the sky with three different airplanes, donating one to the Aviation Museum in Calgary.
He was great at inventing and creating projects in his shop, where he spent many hours. His love of animals and his garden, keeping his family and friends well stocked with canned and fresh vegetables. His last big project was a large family tree that he worked on for a couple of years.
He was predeceased by his parents and a niece and leaves behind his two sisters – Mavis (Ken) Southgate and Barbara (Keith) Marsh, four nephews and close friends- who worked tirelessly to keep him on his farm as long as possible, numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.
Thank you to the EMS, doctors and nurses from numerous hospitals that took such good care of Gregory during his long illness.
It was Gregory’s wish to not have a service at this time but the family with gather together at a later date, when safe to do so.
Any tributes in Gregory’s memory can be made to the Strathmore Veterinary Clinic, under the “Trike Fund”, 43 Spruce Lane, Strathmore, AB, T1P 1J3, email: info@strathmorevet.com.

I knew Greg well in the mid 80s. My first skydive was out his Cessna in Beiseker. He customized my van and we went off road motorcycling in the Kananaskis. We travelled to Las Vegas when you could get a prime rib dinner for $5.99. My last sky dive was a night jump over Las Vegas. I moved to Toronto and lost track….
Very sad to hear of Greg’s passing. Our families were great friends over the years. With the amount of chemicals that Greg handled over the years they were bound to take a tootle on his health. He was definitely an early bird and loved to fly in the morning. Rest in peace old friend.
My condolences to Mavis and Barb and the family. I remember Greg when I was a kid, tinkering around e farm like Uncle Sonny and flying his plane. Loving memories for sure. Rest In Peace Greg
It has been many years sense I have seen any of you, Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Greg. R.I.P. and fly high to your home on high.
Greg was very intuitive , and enjoyed flying….. you have your own wings now Greg…. Love Aunt Flo and Aunt Frances
My sympathy to all of you on Greg’s passing. He lived an interesting and accomplished life. How wonderful that he worked in his Dad’s shop just like Uncle Son did. And gardened carrying on from Aunt Dot. He did the homestead proud. And was clearly loved by his family. ♥️
