Gwendolyn “Gwen” Margaret Schuler passed away at Vulcan Extendicare on October 23, 2007 at the age of 97 years.
Gwen was born November 4, 1909 on a farm near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Nicholas and Bertha Faber. She received all her education at Sutherland, Saskatchewan. Gwen married Fredrick Carl Schuler on April 5, 1929 at Big River, Saskatchewan. After they were married, they farmed near Bodmin, Winter Lake and Lake Four, Saskatchewan. In 1957 Fred and Gwen moved to Vulcan. In 2006 Gwen moved into Vulcan Extendicare and resided there until her passing.
Gwen was fond of music and a talented organist. As a young woman, she played for her church. Gwen enjoyed camping and spent many vacations in northern Saskatchewan visiting with family and friends and berry picking. Gwen’s passions were quilting, gardening and her dogs. Gwen made at least one quilt for everyone in the family and often made replacements for those beloved quilts once they had worn out. Her favorite flowers were peonies and gladiolas. Summers were spent in her garden tending the beautiful flowers she loved so much and grew so well. She also crocheted and made several afghans a year. Gwen traveled extensively and enjoyed it immensely. Visits from children and grandchildren were always enjoyed, but Gwen was especially thankful for daily visits from her daughter, Dora and for when daughters Irene and Grace came to stay after her heart attack in 2004. She is remembered with fond memories by those whose lives she touched and she will be missed greatly.
