Chuck passed away peacefully after having the opportunity to said goodbye to all of his loved ones on August 11, 2020.
Chuck was born in Holland on September 17, 1935. He came to Canada when he was just 12 years old and resided in Ontario with his family. He decided to venture to Western Canada with his best friend Raymond at the age of 16. Chuck returned to Ontario before coming back to settle in Alberta with his two brothers, John and Hank. He always had many stories to tell of his road trip from Ontario to Alberta.
In Alberta he found employment as a ranch hand for the A7 Ranch among others. Chuck met Jeanne and they settled in Vulcan to start their life together. They raised their three daughters here. Throughout his life he worked as a long haul transport driver, heavy equipment operator and many other jobs to provide for his family. Chuck was open minded to new opportunities and was never afraid to try something new. He ventured out onto his own and became a successful contractor. He built many houses in Vulcan and was recognized for being one of the first to build with wooden basements in Vulcan. As a family they moved out to the country to start a hobby farm he joking called the “Holiday Gypsy Dude Ranch”. Chuck worked for many years past the normal retirement age of 65 and always kept busy tinkering on odd jobs to keep himself busy.
Chuck always looked forward to hunting with his son-in-law Rod and would drop everything to go fishing with his grandson and friends. Each morning he would be found down at the “Relic Centre” joking, visiting and hustling his buddies at pool or a game of crib. He enjoyed his yard and spent many hours in his little piece of paradise.
He is survived by the love of his life for the past 60 years – Jeanne and his three daughters – Sandra (Rodney) Cindy (Terry) and Deborah. He always joked that he had raised all daughters and then had 6 grandsons he was so proud of – Lee, Wade, Jon (DiAnne), Rocky(Tracy), Jordan and Chas. He had 2 great grandchildren – Mya And Danica. He is also survived by his oldest sister Elizabeth and younger brother Edward. He will be sadly missed by many family and friends who were near and dear to him. He was predeceased by his parents and eleven siblings.
Chuck’s wishes were to not have a funeral service and in lieu of flowers, his request was to make a donation to the Vulcan Royal Canadian Legion, Box 175, Vulcan, AB T0L 2B0.
