Alexander “Alex” Schneider received his call “Come Home” early morning April 12, 2005 at the age of 94 years. He had been a resident of Vulcan Extendicare since January 28, 1999

Alex was born January 9, 1911 to Henry and Kathrina (Schleich) Schneider in Neu Messer, Russia.  It was a God-honoring home.  The family immigrated to the United States, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts when Alex was 20 months old.  Their first residence was in Walla Walla, Washington, where other relatives had preceded them.  After a period of time, the family relocated to Ritzville, Washington, where Alex attended the schools and later college in Pullman and Spokane.  He worked at various jobs, but began farming in 1940 upon his father’s retirement.  He loved working with the soil and thoroughly enjoyed farming.

Alex met Esther Schneider while attending a church conference in Portland, Oregon.  They were married October 20, 1946.

Alex became acquainted with the Vulcan area when chauffeuring his father and stepmother, Eva, to visit relatives.  He was very favorably impressed with the area.  He had the opportunity to purchase some property from Ezra Cowell, east of Vulcan.  The family moved to Vulcan in the spring of 1952.  Alex and Esther felt very definitely the Lord had brought them here.

Hired men were a part of Alex and Esther’s life for years.  They heard about Jesus and prayer.  Alex has had a warm compassionate heart for Christian Missions and the various avenues of ministry.  He deeply appreciated all the friendships offered him.

Alex and Esther were blessed with seven children.  He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, Esther; Sharon (Grant) Disley of Toronto, Ontario, Paul (Onalee) Schneider and their children Lindsey, Michael, Kimberly, Steven of Seattle, Washington, Carol Schneider, John Schneider of Vulcan, Linda (Dan) Wester and their sons Greg, Dale  of Tilley, Alberta, Keith Schneider of Vulcan, Ray (Donna) Schneider of Vulcan.  Sisters  Leah Ward of Kennewick, Washington, Hannah Nurss of Yakima, Washington, brother Leslie (Grace) Schneider of Loon Lake, Washington, also a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
