Albert Schierman of Vulcan was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ February 25, 2003 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 78 years.
Albert was born in Calgary, Alberta August 15, 1924 to John and Mary (Dippel) Schierman. He grew up near Queenstown Alberta (1925-1937) where he attended Griffen school and near Vulcan (since 1937) where he attended Snake Creek school. He took over the family farm in 1950 and married Helen Rausch on November 1, 1952.
Albert enjoyed working with his hands at woodwork or lawn chair macrame, collecting coins and stamps, fishing, watching Hockey Night in Canada, playing Chinese checkers, Crokinole or Scrabble, taking his family on camping trips to the mountains or British Columbia to pick fruit. A trip to Europe was his family’s gist to him and Helen for their 25th Wedding Anniversary.
Albert was a life long member of the Vulcan Evangelical Missionary Church. He made a working trip to Colombia with Men for Missions. He joined the Gideons in 1976 and was a charter member of Chinook Camp Zone 4. He very much enjoyed presenting New Testaments to Grade Five students in the area. For years Albert and Helen planned their holidays around Gideon conventions, going to every province except Newfoundland.
In addition to farming all his life, Albert drove school bus, put together machinery at Farmway, worked at the Pool and Pioneer elevators and collected data for Environment Canada.
In 1982 he moved to 635 Centre Street, Vulcan. His family remained his main interest and pleasure. Health concerns necessitated a move to Calgary Foothills Long Term Care in Calgary in July 2002. He so much appreciated his family’s visits to him there. A 50th Wedding Celebration on November 1, 2002 at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary was a highlight for the whole family.

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet Albert at his residence once, and it was such a great experience. I think Albert is such a great guy, to be honest.
