Mabel Mann Salvage of Vulcan, passed away at Vulcan Community Health Centre December 7, 2003 at the age of 90 years.
Mabel was born July 10, 1913 on the family homestead at Thigh Hill, Alberta to Zebbie and Mary Deal. She attended Thigh Hill, Vulcan and finished high school in Calgary. Mabel returned to Vulcan and worked briefly in the bakery for Bob Martin and five years with A.G.T. as a switchboard operator.
Mabel married William Salvage on August 27, 1939 . They moved to Sundre and in 1953 they returned to Vulcan so that Bill could work for John Wolfe Sr. After moving back to Vulcan, Mabel worked at Sears and Lethbey Drugstore. She then returned to A.G.T. and worked six years as a switchboard operator until it was automated 1964. Mabel then clerked fourteen years for Virginia Mitchell until her retirement at the age of 65.
Mabel had a great love for the prairies, was witty, enjoyed good music, china, linens and knitting. She was very practical and thrifty and sewed some clothes. Mabel was an avid reader, had a good sense of humor and was a good listener. She was a past member of Vulcan Rebekah Lodge.
Loving mother of two daughters Sylvia (Cal) Lebsack of Parksville, BC and Mary Westcott of Airdrie, three grandchildren Brent (Tanja) and their children Brianna and Zachary; Karen (Ken) and their children Kristyn, Holly, Shayla, Lacey, Alysha, Matt, Ryan and Troy; Jeremy (Marcene) and their child Hannah, a sister Avis Weaver of Edmonton, a sister-in-law Lillian Deal of Vulcan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill in 1985, four brothers Cecil, Earl, Roy and Howard.
Funeral Service Thursday December 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Vulcan United Church with Lee Spice officiating.
Interment Friday December 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Calgary.
Casket bearers Ted Hartung, Norm Lebsack, Randy Wolfe, Allan Deal, Gordon Carlson and Jeremy Clayton-Lebsack.
