DORA SALTER WAS QUIETLY CALLED HOME TO HER LORD ON JUNE 7, 1991 IN HER 96TH YEAR.

DORA WAS BORN AT STANTON, VIRGINIA ON JUNE 30, 1894. SHE MOVED WITH HER PARENTS TO ROLLIC COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA IN 1897, THEN CAME TO NANTON IN 1900 TO HOMESTEAD SEVEN MILES WEST OF VULCAN. SHE ATTENDED RICHMOND HILL AND HARVEY SCHOOLS. IN 1916, SHE MARRIED RALPH SALTER AND TWO YEARS LATER MOVED THREE MILES EAST OF ARROWWOOD. IN 1927, THEY BEGAN OPERATING A GARAGE AT QUEENSTOWN FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL IT WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE. IN 1931, SHE MOVED HER FIVE CHILDREN TO THE SALTER FAMILY FARM 1/4 MILE EAST WHERE SHE RAISED HER FAMILY ON HER OWN AND WORKED AS COOK FOR THRASHING CREWS FOR A FEW SEASONS.

DORA ENJOYED COOKING AND WAS AN EXCELLENT COOK. SHE WAS ALSO A GARDENER, AND WAS VERY GOOD AT IT – SO GOOD THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO GET A PALM TREE TO GROW OUTSIDE DURING THE THIRTIES. SHE RAISED TURKEYS AS A WAY TO MAKE ENDS MEET. SHE ENJOYED SEWING AND USED TO SEW ALL OF HER CHILDRENS’ CLOTHES WITHOUT A PATTERN. DORA LOVED HER FAMILY AND TIME AWAY FISHING. SHE ENJOYED HANDICRAFTS, CROCHETING (UP UNTIL THE PAST THREE YEARS) AND BINGO. SHE CAME TO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN THE FIRST YEAR IT WAS BUILT IN 1968 WHERE SHE RESIDED UNTIL MOVING TO EXTENDICARE IN 1986.

SHE WILL BE LOVINGLY REMEMBERED BY TWO DAUGHTERS – NELLIE (BOB) HUTTON OF VULCAN AND DARLENE (DAYTON) WILLIAMS OF CHAMPION, TWELVE GRANDCHILDREN, TWENTY FIVE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A SISTER-IN-LAW ESTER SALTER OF ALIX, ALBERTA, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

SHE WAS PREDECEASED BY TWO DAUGHTERS HARRIET IN 1918 AND GLADYS ARNOLD IN 1982, TWO SONS CHARLES IN 1944 AND EARL IN 1983 AND HER PARENTS ASBY AND MARY ELIZABETH KENNY.

FUNERAL SERVICES MONDAY, JUNE 10, 1991 AT 10 AM AT CENTRAL CHURCH OF CHRIST, VULCAN, WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING. INTERMENT IN THE FAMILY PLOT, VULCAN CEMETERY.
