ROOT, Jerome “Jerry”  1925 – 2013

ROOT, Jerome “Jerry” passed away on May 9, 2013 in Brooks Health Centre at the age of 88 years.

Jerry Root was born on February 25, 1925 on the Lomond homestead. Except for a few winters during his youth, he lived in Lomond all his life before moving to Brooks in the fall of 2010.

Jerry started his working career as a partner in an implement agency, service station and oil agency. After that was sold 4 years later, he became the agent for the Imperial Oil bulk plant from 1951 – 1957. It was in1952 that he began farming, the profession that became his passion. He married Emma Dodds from Glenboro, Manitoba in 1953.

Jerry was one of the 2 remaining charter members on the Lomond Lions Club before his death. He was very active in the community, helping out where it was needed.

Jerry will be missed by his children, Doreen of Calgary, Larry of Lethbridge, his sister Marmion of Vulcan, grandchildren Mathew (Jessie), Kayla (Mackenzie), great granddaughter Nyla, special friend  Isobelle Volesky and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Emma, parents Edward & Molly Root, brother and sister-in-law Aubrey and Marion Root, brother-in-law Fred Geschwendt and nephew Monty Root.

Memorial Service will be held at the Lomond Community Centre on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 1:00 pm.
