Emma Kathleen Root, of Lomond passed away April 6, 2003 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 72 years.
Emma was born July 18, 1930 in Glenboro, Manitoba to Robert and Ida Dodds. Following her schooling at the Glenboro school, Emma worked as a housekeeper looking after children. She moved west to Medicine Hat and then to Lomond in 1953, where she kept house for Mervin and Inez Liebreich. Emma met Jerry Root and they were married in Medicine Hat in June of the same year. In 1957 they built their first home in Lomond and in 1977 they moved to the farm two miles west of Lomond where she has continued to reside since.
Emma loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sharing special times with them and enjoyed spoiling each and every one of them. Coming from a large family, Emma loved the close relationships with all of her siblings and their families.
Emma enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery work and cooking. She was an excellent cook who loved to share her talents with her family and friends. Whether it was cooking a large meal or baking up a storm, her food was appreciated by everyone.
Emma was a member of the Goodwill Club of Lomond for many years.
Beloved wife of Jerry of Lomond, loving mother of a daughter Doreen (Bill) Polachuk of Calgary, a son Larry Root of Lomond, two grandchildren Mathew Polachuk and Kayla Polachuk both of Calgary, six sisters Ellen (Alistair) Ferguson of Edmonton, Alice (Barney) Isliefson of Virden, Manitoba, Laura Funk of Winnipeg, Edith (Mike) Slobodian , Joan (Richard) Pawloski, Linda Fisher all of Winnipeg, four brothers Alex (Myrna) Dodds of Vulcan, Roy (Marg) Dodds of Medicine Hat, David Fisher of Port Coquitlam, B.C., Lloyd (Ellen) Fisher of Lockport, Manitoba, two sisters-in-law Audrey Dodds of Winnipeg, Evelyn Dodds of Maple Ridge, Manitoba, numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma was predeceased by two brothers Robert Dodds, Bill Dodds, a niece Cynthia Slobodian, and her parents.
Celebration of Life Service on Friday April 11, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.
