Nelsie Hulda Aleah Robertson passed away December 7, 2006 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 91 years.
Nelsie was born February 22, 1915 at Milo, Alberta to Nels and Hulda Peterson. She attended Corby Hill School until Grade 5 and then Milo School until Grade 12. Nelsie worked at Thompson’s Grocery Store on Saturdays and started working there full time after she finished school. She moved to Calgary in 1936 and worked for the Tanner Family. Nelsie married Merrell Robertson on July 10, 1937 and resided in Calgary for one year. They later moved to the Queenstown District and farmed on the Robertson family farm. In 1941 they moved to Vulcan where Merrell was killed in a farming implement accident in 1949. Bessie Robertson (Merrell’s mother) had the original homestead home moved to Vulcan where Nelsie raised her four children. She worked for Canada Post for twenty-five years. Nelsie moved to Peter Dawson Lodge in 1999.
Nelsie was an avid gardener all her life, a talented seamstress, and did upholstery as a hobby. Her passion was making quilts. Nelsie traveled extensively to visit her children. She was a life member of the Central Church of Christ and the Candlelight Circle group.
Loving mother of two daughters Pat Fullerton of Victoria, Merla (Earl) Bush of Sun City West, Arizona, son Ken (Patricia) of St. Hubert, Quebec, son-in-law Dr. Gary Lieskovsky of Los Angeles, California, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five sisters-in-law Lil Peterson, Delora Robertson, Hazel Henderson, Stacia Robertson, Anne Clouston and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nelsie was predeceased by her husband Merrell in 1949, her daughter Suzanne in 1988, five sisters, six brothers and her parents.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vulcan Church of Christ with Doug Barrie officiating.
Honorary bearers are her grandchildren— Dawn, David, Lara, Lana, Sarah and Allison.
Inurnment Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary.
