June Audrey Rhodes of Champion, beloved wife of Walter passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on June 18, 2015 at the age of 89 years.
Besides her loving husband, Walter, June is survived by daughters Lynne (Darrel) Vaage of Vulcan, Marjorie (Terry) Hamilton of Coalhurst, sons Doug (Ella), Les (Lynne) and David Rhodes, all of Champion, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren, sisters Betty Root and Fay Poch and numerous nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her parents Ted and Juanita Ashmore, a son Jerry Rhodes, a sister Shirley Culham and a brother Richard Ashmore.
June and Walter celebrated 71 years of marriage in December. They were members of the Champion Congregational Church in Champion and past members of the Champion United Church. June served many years on the UCW and then CCW. She was an active member of the community.
June loved baseball, golf, camping, crocheting, singing, dancing and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to go to the Drop In Center and visit with her friends. She also loved to go to every sporting event that her kids and grandkids were in and cheer them on. She was a huge support to her family and we all knew that Mom/Grandma was always there for us in the good times and the bad. Her chocolate cake and caramel icing was the cake of choice for birthdays in our family, and Mom always made the best one.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at the Champion Community Hall, Pastor David Skinner officiating. Interment Champion Cemetery.
Tributes in June’s memory can be made to the Vulcan Community Health Centre, Box 299, Vulcan, AB T0L 2B0.

Dear Doug, Ella, Rachelle, Chad, Angie, and Stephanie
Our heartfelt sympathy in the passing of a wonderful mom and grandmother. I have warm memories of June from my days with the Vulcan Golf Club. She was always kind and fun-loving to golf with, and was a wonderful addition to that club. During my days teaching in Champion, June was the most supportive grand parent (along with your dad, of course!). Randy and I were in Pittsburgh, PA at the time of your mom’s passing. So sorry. With love
