PHILLIPS, Dorothy Jean  1924 – 2003

Dorothy Jean Phillips, of Champion, Alberta passed away Monday, December 29 2003 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, Calgary, Alberta at the age of 79 years.

Dorothy was born January 7, 1924 at Nanton, Alberta to Charles and Irene Koch. She attended Arthur, Cayley and Nanton schools. At the age of seventeen she married Glen Ransom and together they had two children. Glen enlisted in the war and while over Berlin was killed in 1944. Dorothy married Lloyd William Phillips in 1948 in High River and together they had two children. They began their married life farming at Sundre, Cayley and High River. The family resided in several locations including Whiskey Gap, Barnwell, Kirkcaldy and Nakusp, BC where she worked until semi retiring and moving to Westbank. Dorothy and Lloyd retired to Champion in 1995 where they have resided since.

Dorothy loved her family and friends. She found great enjoyment baking bread, sewing, knitting sweaters or crocheting. Dorothy was also a great cook and always ready for a game of cards.

She was a past member of the Kirkcaldy Women’s Institute and enjoyed her time singing with Sanderson’s Army in Carmangay.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Lloyd, two daughters Carol (Keith) Harris, Linda (Gerard) Gottselig , two sons Don (Elizabeth Neufeld) Ransom and Gary (Sherlane) Phillips, nine grandchildren Sherrie (Chris) Frank, Ione (Randy) Liberty, Keith Jr.(Andrea) Harris, Kristina Gottselig and Craig Gottselig, Greg (Tracie) Phillips, Logan Phillips, Tanner Phillips and Adele Johnson, nine great grand children Charlene, Tyler and Jordan Frank, Evan, Tegan and Anna Liberty, William “Will” Harris, Lyla Mae Gottselig, and Corbin Johnson, a brother Ernest (Pam) Koch, four sisters Pearl Melvin, Sally McGregor, Beryl (John) Oster and Bernice (Don) Ransom, two sisters-in-law Marg Koch and Reta Koch and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband Glen Ransom in 1944, two brothers Albert and Roy and her parents.

A private family gathering will take place in Champion.

Inurnment at a later date in Champion Cemetery.
