Dorothy Irene Peters of Vulcan, Alberta passed away November 1, 2006 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 89 years.
Dorothy was born January 27, 1917 at Lomond, Alberta to Joseph and Frieda Rodgers. She attended school in the Lomond area and went to work as a domestic upon completing high school. Dorothy met Harry Peters at a dance and they were married on November 14, 1940 at Stavely. Dorothy and Harry moved to the family farm on Thigh Hill at Vulcan and began their life together. Farming was hard work but they knew how to have fun as well and enjoyed attending card parties and square dances. Because of tainted water on the farm, they moved into Vulcan and farmed from town for many years until they retired in 1972. Dorothy enjoyed retirement with Harry by traveling in their motor home, going fishing and volunteering at the Drop-in Centre.
Dorothy was a great inspiration to her children and grandchildren. She taught them honesty, integrity, loyalty and the value of hard work. Dorothy loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She was a gifted artist however was too shy to display her work. Dorothy continued her education throughout her life by reading and studied French and typing by correspondence. She was a member of the Kirkcaldy Women’s Institute and participated in all their worthy endeavors.
