THOMAS EDWIN “TOM” PAYNE, PASSED AWAY AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL NOVEMBER 2, 1991 AT THE AGE OF 70 YEARS.
BELOVED FATHER OF TWO SONS – GERALD AND HIS WIFE BARBARA OF LONDON, ONTARIO AND RICK AND HIS WIFE CHRIS OF KINCARDINE, ONTARIO, A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW ELEANOR OF LONDON, ONTARIO, FIVE GRANDCHILDREN, TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A BROTHER RALPH AND HIS WIFE MARIE OF LONDON, ONTARIO.
TOM WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS ISAAC AND EDNA PAYNE AND A SON DOUG.
TOM WAS BORN FEBRUARY 14, 1921 AT THAMASFORD, ONTARIO WHERE HE ATTENDED SCHOOL AND RECEIVED HIS MECHANIC’S LICENCE. IN 1952 HE CAME OUT WEST TO CALGARY THEN TO VULCAN TO VISIT HIS UNCLE TOM HOULTON. HE WORKED AS A MECHANIC IN VULCAN, NANTON AND CHAMPION UNTIL RETIRING IN ABOUT 1985. HE CONTINUED TO RESIDE IN CHAMPION WITH HIS SPECIAL FRIEND LIL SCHURER.
TOM WAS A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION IN QUEENSTOWN, MILO AND THEN VULCAN FOR MANY YEARS. HE ENJOYED HIS WORK AND WAS ALWAYS EAGER TO TRY HIS HAND AT FIXING WHATEVER CAME HIS WAY, AND HE WAS USUALLY SUCCESSFUL.
FUNERAL SERVICE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7 AT 2:00 P.M. AT VULCAN FUNERAL HOME WITH REV. BEVERLY HILL OFFICIATING. INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
PALLBEARERS WERE DAVE BECHARD, MIKE KULAS, MARVIN KRAFT AND CECIL MORRISON.
