PAPP,  JOHN OF MILO, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY NEAR HIS HOME JANUARY 27, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 74 YEARS.

JOHN WAS BORN APRIL 15, 1922 AT BUJ, HUNGARY WHERE HE ATTENDED HIS FIRST FIVE YEARS OF SCHOOLING AND FOUR YEARS OF VIOLIN LESSONS. JOHN AND HIS BROTHER GEORGE ARRIVED IN HALIFAX IN 1933, AFTER AN ADVENTUROUS TRIP BY BOAT ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. THE BOYS WERE HAPPY TO SEE THEIR DAD WHO TOOK THEM BY TRAIN TO ANTELOPE, SASKATCHEWAN. LATER THEY MOVED TO PENANT AND IN 1935 TO CHANCELLOR, ALBERTA WHERE JOHN ATTENDED SCHOOL AND FARMED FROM THE AGE OF SIXTEEN.

IN 1944 HE MARRIED BETTE WILLIAMS WHO WAS TEACHING IN CHANCELLOR AT THE TIME AND THEY MOVED TO CROWFOOT FOR THREE YEARS. THEY BEGAN FARMING BETTE’S PARENTS LAND IN THE MILO- QUEENSTOWN DISTRICT IN 1946 AS WELL AS IN CROWFOOT AND CLUNY DISTRICTS, WERE THEY HAVE RESIDED FOR THE PAST FIFTY YEARS.

JOHN DISCOVERED EARLY IN LIFE THAT MUSIC IS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE AND HE LOVED TO HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS GATHER WITH HIM TO PLAY. HIS VIOLIN WAS HEARD THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRYSIDE, HOMES AND DANCE HALLS, INCLUDING STREET DANCES IN CALGARY DURING THE CALGARY STAMPEDE.

JOHN WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITIES WERE HE LIVED, WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE GLEICHEN AND MILO MASONIC LODGE WHERE HE SERVED AS PAST MASTER, THE ALBERTA WHEAT POOL, FARMERS UNION OF ALBERTA AND MANY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.

JOHN IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFE BETTE PAPP, SON JOHN (SHIRLEY) PAPP OF VICTORIA , DAUGHTER JOAN (LYLE) WINCH OF NEW WESTMINISTER, B.C., A GRANDSON WESLEY PAPP, FOUR GRANDDAUGHTERS LISA, MELANIE AND STEPHANIE WINCH, AND JULIE PAPP, A BROTHER GEORGE (BILLY) PAPP, A SISTER MARY ANNE (ELDON) PETERSON, A SISTER-IN-LAW SHARON PAPP, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

JOHN WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS MARY AND JOHN PAPP, MOTHER AND FATHER IN-LAW VIOLA AND STEVEN WILLIAMS , BROTHER CARL, SISTER-IN-LAW AND BROTHER-IN-LAW FRANCES AND FRANK FRASER, A NEPHEW PAUL WEIDMAIER AND NUMEROUS FRIENDS.

FUNERAL SERVICE FRIDAY JANUARY 31, 1997 AT 1:30 P.M. AT THE MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH DON HOLMES L.M. OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT O’ PERFECT PEACE CEMETERY, MILO, ALBERTA.
