Florence Humphreys of Lomond, Alberta passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 88 years.
Florence was born May 2, 1916 at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Louise Williams. She attended Grades 1-8 at Suffield School. At the age of 18, Florence left home to work at the White Lunch Cafe in Gull Lake. In 1939 she married Art Humphreys at Swift Current, Saskatchewan and they began their lives together. Into this union four children were born, three in Swift Current and one in Vulcan.
NELSON, Kenneth Clarke 1921 – 2005
Kenneth C. Nelson beloved husband of Ethel of Vulcan, Alberta passed away peacefully April 16, 2005 at the Vulcan Extendicare.
Ken was born April 22, 1921 at Sexsmith, Alberta to Tom and Mary Nelson of Teepee Creek, Alberta.
Beside his wife Ethel, Ken is survived by his daughters Connie (Ward) Knight, Yvonne (Gordon) Lyon and Nancy (Rob) Graham, five grandchildren Leslie Knight, Darrel (Antoinette) Knight, Kandy Lyon, Kris Boivin and Kim Boivin, a great grandchild Terrin Lyon, a bother Fred Nelson and numerous nieces and nephews.

KOKARITIS, Janis “John” 1913 – 2005
Janis “John” Kokaritis passed away at his home in Vulcan, Alberta April 12, 2005 following a lengthy illness at the age of 91 years.
John was born at Dugaupils, Latvia on July 21, 1913 to Joseph and Veronica Kokaritis. He moved to England after the second world war. Where attended night school to study civil engineering and carpentry, to be able to join the union. He moved to Montreal, Quebec in 1957 and worked his way across Canada, to Calgary, Milo and finally to Vulcan were he has resided since 1988. John married Janina Mukans October 8, 1941in Latvia.

Alexander “Alex” Schneider received his call “Come Home” early morning April 12, 2005 at the age of 94 years. He had been a resident of Vulcan Extendicare since January 28, 1999
Alex was born January 9, 1911 to Henry and Kathrina (Schleich) Schneider in Neu Messer, Russia. It was a God-honoring home. The family immigrated to the United States, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts when Alex was 20 months old. Their first residence was in Walla Walla, Washington, where other relatives had preceded them. UMSCHEID, James “Jim” Leo 1921 – 2005
James “Jim” Leo Umscheid of Milo, Alberta passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at High River Hospital Long Term Care at the age of 83 years.
Jim was born September 25, 1921 at Milo, Alberta to Clarence and Jessie Umscheid. He attended Pioneer School northeast of Milo and later attended Tech where he took a diesel mechanic course. In 1942 Jim joined the RCAF as an aero engineer mechanic. He trained in Canada and was sent to England in 1943. He re-mustered to the air crew and served on two squadrons, the latter being the Pathfinder squadron, as a flight engineer.
TIEGEN, Daniel “Danny” Carl 1936 – 2005
Daniel “Danny” Carl Tiegen of Milo, Alberta passed away Monday, April 11, 2005 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 68 years.
Danny was born August 29,1936 at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to Oscar and Peggy Tiegen. The family moved to the Milo area in 1945 and he attended Milo School until the age of 15. Danny started working in road construction in the summer and did commercial fishing in the winter.
Danny married Carol Peterson on June 6, 1959. He operated Con Peterson’s trucking company from1960 to 1969. They then bought the Peterson homestead and began farming.

BECK, CARL Davis 1920 – 2005

Carl Davis Beck passed away after a struggle with chronic lung disease on April 7, 2005 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 84 years.
Carl was born in Bassano Hospital on April 18, 1920 shortly after his family homesteaded northeast of Duchess. His parents, William and Winnifred, purchased land from the CPR and moved from the mid western United States in search of a better way of life. Carl had two brothers, Donald and Lester. Wilhelmina (Rausch) Schierman peacefully entered the presence of her Lord on April 7, 2005 at Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 87 years, surrounded by her family.
Wilhelmina was born December 10, 1917 in Leader Saskatchewan. When she was two months old the family moved to the Bridgeland-Riverside district of Calgary where she attended Riverside School and Jehovah Lutheran Church. Edythe passed away peacefully at Vulcan Extendicare on Tuesday, March 29, 2005. She was predeceased in 2001 by her loving husband, Martin, of fifty-seven years, and her brother Russell Lockwood of Vancouver in 1999. Kenneth Sinclair McLean, of Vulcan, Alberta passed away March 25, 2005 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 90 years.
Ken was born on the homestead farm in the Eastway District of Vulcan County September 21, 1914 to John “Jack” and Sarah McLean. He attended Eastway and Milo Schools where he met Doris Beckner. Ken then attended Barber School in Calgary in 1936 to 1937. He purchased Model Barber Shop on 4th Street and 8th Avenue in Calgary.
