BATEMAN, George Walter 1919 – 2006
Bateman, George Walter of Vulcan, Alberta passed away August 27, 2006 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 86 years.
George is survived by a sister Lola Findlay of Vulcan, two sisters-in-law Margery Puzey of Brooks and Elaine Bateman of Vulcan, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four brothers Leon, Clifford (Irene), Delbert (Melvina), Glenn, sister May (Edwin) Nelson, brother-in-law Lundy Findlay.
Funeral service Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Champion with Bishop Ted Findlay officiating.
Interment Vulcan Cemetery at 3:30 pm.

Romaniuk, Marina “Mary” of Carmangay, Alberta passed away on August 22, 2006 at Little Bow Auxiliary Hospital at Carmangay at the age of 95 years. Mary was born September 25, 1910 at Ledwyn, Manitoba to John and Anastasia Buchko.
Loving mother of a daughter Helena Nixdorf of Carmangay, a son Edward (Esther) of Barrie, Ontario, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law Jean and Rose Buchko both of Arborg, Manitoba.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Walter, son-in-law Walter Nixdorf, five brothers and her parents.

Berendina “Dene” Marks of Milo, Alberta passed away July 27, 2006 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 81 years.
Dene was born July 10, 1925 at Rheden, Holland to Willem and Aaltje Grootherder. She was the youngest of six children. Dene met Fred Marks during the war in Holland and they married in 1946. After the war, in July 1947, she came to Canada with her two and half year old daughter Dene and seven month old son Freddie to join her husband on the farm in Milo. Dene could only speak

Muriel Elsie “Bunty” Bertschy of Vulcan, Alberta passed away July 25, 2006 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 77 years.
Loving mother of a daughter Marlene (Bob) Seney of Bawlf, a son Randy (Arlene) of Mossleigh, seven grandchildren Danette (Rod) and their children Jacob and Shiloh, Denise (Rich) and their children Ryan and Allyson, Tracey (Wade) and their daughter Madison, Dustin (Christina) and their daughter Jordan, Lindy (Steve) and their son Braden, Shane and Colton, three brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald Stewart “Ron” Hayes of Calgary passed away July 24, 2006 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital at Calgary at the age of 70 years.
Ron was born on October 29, 1935 at Arrowwood, Alberta. He attended school at Arrowwood and took piano lessons for many years. Grade 12 was completed at Bow Valley Central in Cluny. Ron attended U of A in Edmonton, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. He then joined the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Calgary where he received his Chartered Accountant Designation. ANDERSON, Annie Bell 1905 – 2006
Annie Bell Anderson (nee Mellow) of Vulcan, Alberta passed away July 24, 2006 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 102 years.
Annie was born November 26, 1905 at Essex County, Ontario to William and Mary Mellow. The family moved to Alberta and Annie attended school at Turin. In 1933 she married Bill Anderson. They moved to Champion in 1952 and bought a farm. In 1959 they sold the farm and bought land at Vulcan. Annie and Bill retired in 1971 and moved into town. Bill passed away in 1986 and Annie moved into the Peter Dawson Lodge in 1997. In

Earl A. Smith from the Champion/Carmangay passed away July 23, 2006 at the age of 79 years. He spent his entire life farming and ranching and was very involved with his family and his community.
Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife of Irene and his children Terry (Donna) , Ladell (Deb), Darell (Linda), Lyle (Eleanor), Brent (Judy), Sharleen (Doug) and Kevin (Teresa) of Champion. He is also survived by fifteen grandchilden, a great granddaughter, brother Lorne (Virginia) Smith, sisters Arvilla (DeCon) Pitcher and Sharon (Chad) Howells, and sisters-in-law Ida Greene and Enid Pieschel.

Marion Matlock, formerly of Champion, Alberta passed away June 20, 2006 at the Willow Creek Auxiliary Care Centre, Claresholm, Alberta at the age of 87 years.
Marion was born September 21, 1918 at Calgary, Alberta to Harold and Ula Tindall. She attended Yale School, Victoria High School in Edmonton and Champion High School. Marion worked for various families in the Champion area after finishing school. She met Martin Matlock in 1939 and they were married on March 21, 1942 in Calgary. They resided in the Champion and operated a service station and bulk fuel outlet. Martin died in 1992. Marion continued
