Dale Wayne Hart of Lomond, passed away at home on August 28, 2019 at the age of 63 years.

Wayne, as he liked to go by, was raised and spent the vast majority of his life in the Lomond community. He was interested in sports at a young age and spent much of his teenage years very involved in hockey. He was proud to be a farmer in the Lomond community until health issues prevented him from continuing.

The family of Maury Maxwell Groves of Champion, are saddened to announce his sudden passing at home on August 17, 2019 at the age of 59 years.

Maury was born December 18, 1959 in Calgary, AB to Keith and Barbara (Poffenroth) Groves. He received his education in Champion and Vulcan Schools. Maury then attended Medicine Hat College for one year, playing football for the Rattlers. He attended SAIT for two years and was active in their curling program. Maury worked various jobs until starting in the pipe fitting trade, of which he continued working at until his passing.

Judith Lorraine (Judy) was born in Vulcan on May 9th, 1949 to Ivan and Eileen Haga, the third daughter of four. She attended school in Vulcan. Her passion was horses, horses, horses and she rode whenever she could in her youth. Due to a stroke at the age of 19 Judy had to relearn many things, but did so with great tenacity. She worked hard to learn to write left-handed and to walk again.

Dora (Tindall) Schmeelke May 6, 1930 – July 22, 2019

Dora Schmeelke of Vulcan, passed away peacefully in Calgary on July 22, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

Dora was born on the Tindall family farm near Champion, the fifth daughter of Harold and Ula (Ficht) Tindall. She attended Yale and Harmony Schools and then worked with her parents on the farm. She loved softball and pitched for both Yale and Harmony teams, but winter brought the greatest joy—skating! Dora and her seven siblings were raised with lots of love and laughter and remained closely-knit throughout their

John Michael Scattergood of Milo, beloved husband of Tracy Bond-Scattergood, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on July 29, 2019, at the age of 77 years.

Besides his loving wife Tracy, John is survived by his children – Angela Scattergood, Troy (Jackie) Scattergood, Nathan (Rosanna) Andrews, Boyd (Angela) Scattergood, Ryan Scattergood, Savanah (Eric) Andrews, grandchildren – Victoria-Lynn Scattergood and her son Hunter Scattergood, Jordon (Gwen) Scattergood, along with many other grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Ada Scattergood and brother Graham Scattergood.

A Celebration of Life will be held

Lloyd Alexander Armstrong , formerly of Milo, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2019 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 92 years.

Lloyd was born Nov 24,1926 along with his twin brother Floyd, to Andrew and Isobelle Armstrong at home by Lake McGregor. He attended Sunny Lake school from Grade 1-9 then Grade 10-11 in Milo and Grade 12 in Vulcan. Growing up, Lloyd was very active in baseball, hockey and sports in general, which continued throughout his life. He went on to take 1st year Pre-Med at the University of Winnipeg and 2nd year at University of Edmonton.

Julenda “Julie” Smith of Vulcan, beloved wife of the Late David N. Smith, passed away peacefully at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on July 17, 2019 at the age of 83 years.

Julie was born August 14, 1935 to Ole and Lina Tytlandsvik on the family farm near Maxim, SK. One of 14 siblings, she grew up there and took her schooling at Temple School and Weyburn Collegiate. Julie trained and worked as a nurse before taking on other occupations. She married Dave Smith in 1957 and together they raised four daughters. The family moved to the County of Vulcan

Allan Clark McAskile will be laid to rest in the Vulcan Cemetery on July 20, 2019. His inurnment at 1:30 will be officiated by Rev. Gordon Cranch. The family would like to invite friends to join them after for a sharing of memories and stories at the Lodge Hall on Main Street.

Allan was born October 23, 1942 in the Vulcan Hospital to Clifford and Joyce McAskile. He attended school in Vulcan and later went into the Men’s Wear Store with his dad. Allan and his wife Donna were very involved in many local clubs and activities.

Lever, Maria Rosa, of Vulcan, passed away peacefully at the South Campus Health Centre in Calgary on June 27, 2019 at the age of 94 years.

Maria was born in Vigo Cavedine, Italy on December 20, 1924 to Adriano and Aliche Zambaldi. When Maria was a little girl, she was a shepherdess looking after the family sheep and cows with her mother. In her adolescent years, they were very poor and because there was no work in their village, Maria and her mother had to find work in Germany in the Sugar Beet fields.

Murray Wilson McLean, of Vulcan, beloved husband of Norma, passed away tragically in a motor vehicle accident near Vulcan on June 19, 2019 at the age of 64 years.

Murray was born on July 12, 1954 in Calgary to Ken and Doris McLean. He and his four siblings were raised on the family farm in the Berrywater/Eastway district northeast of Vulcan, which his Grandfather had homesteaded in 1909.
