John Allen “Bud” Johnson of Vulcan passed away April 21, 2002 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 75 years.
Bud was born February 9, 1927 in Medicine Hat, Alberta to Gustov and Katherine Johnson. He attended Medicine Hat school. In 1945 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed at Gimli, Manitoba where he trained as an aircraft mechanic, until his discharge in 1947. Vivian Almeda Milliken, passed away peacefully April 7, 2002 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 91 years.
Vivian was born January 8, 1911 at Carmangay, the youngest of five children born to Henry and Emma Frank. She was raised on her parents homestead and attended Blackspring Ridge School. While growing up, Vivian learned her homemaking skills at her mothers side. In 1931 she married Lynn Milliken and together they began their lives together at Carmangay. Vincent, Evelyn formerly of Carmangay, Alberta passed away April 6, 2002 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 96 years.
Evelyn was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba November 11, 1905 to Fredrick and Claribel Fox. In 1907 they moved to Isles of Pines in the West Indies, moving to the homestead near Kelliher, Saskatchewan in 1909. In 1917 they moved to Pontiac, Michigan the following year returned to the homestead, sold it and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1918, where Evelyn completed her schooling. Fay Lois McNiven, of Vulcan, went to meet her Lord and Saviour April 3, 2002 at the age of 82 years at the High River Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Fay was born on March 2, 1920 to Charles and Margaret Steiner. She received her early education at Cottonwood Grove School and then went to Western Canada High School in Calgary, staying with her grandmother. Vivian Ada Booth, longtime resident of the Vulcan area passed away April 2, 2002 at Vulcan Extendicare at the age of 86 Years.
Vivian was born December 4,1915 at Reid Hill, Alberta east of Vulcan the second daughter of John Edward “Ted” and Selma Campbell nee: Balstad. She attended Sunny Glen School. On October 20, 1932 Vivian married Forrest Leonard “Bud” Booth and they started their life together on the farm on Snake Creek. They lived on the farm until the mid 1970’s when they moved to Vulcan.

AFTER COMPLETING HER EDUCATION SHE WORKED FOR THE TORONTO DOMINION BANK FOR FIVE YEARS. ON JUNE 5, 1955 SHE MARRIED RON GORZITZA IN THE LDS CHURCH IN LETHBRIDGE. RYAN JAMES DEITZ OF MILO, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY AFTER A BRIEF, BUT COURAGEOUS BATTLE WITH LEUKEMIA MARCH 21, 2002 AT THE ALBERTA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, CALGARY, SURROUNDED BY HIS FAMILY AT THE AGE OF 15 YEARS.

RYAN WAS A VERY KIND, GENTLE, CARING AND COURTEOUS YOUNG MAN. HE WAS AN INSPIRATION TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, HE TOUCHED MANY HEARTS. HE WILL BE MISSED.

DONALD ALEXANDER POVEY OF VULCAN PASSED AWAY MARCH 21, 2002 AT THE VULCAN EXTENDICARE AT THE AGE OF 71 YEARS.
DON WAS BORN OCTOBER 4, 1930 AT OXBOW, SASKATCHEWAN TO ALEC AND JANET POVEY. HE ATTENDED THE COUNTRY SCHOOL OF DALESBORROW TILL GRADE NINE. AT THE AGE OF EIGHT, HE DID MAINTENANCE WORK AT THE SCHOOL. HE TOOK HIS GRADE TEN BY CORRESPONDENCE AND WHEN THE WAR STARTED HE QUIT SCHOOL TO HELP OUT ON THE FARM . DON CONTINUED TO BREAK HORSES AND WAS THE ONLY COWBOY IN THE DISTRICT. HARRIS WAS BORN FEBRUARY 20, 1920 AT THE ROBERT E. MATLOCK FARM EAST OF CHAMPION TO CECIL AND EMMA MATLOCK. HE RECEIVED HIS SCHOOLING AT ENSIGN AND VULCAN HIGH SCHOOL. IN 1939, DUE TO HIS FATHER’S AILING HEALTH HE TOOK OVER THE FARMING OPERATION, UNTIL 1941WHEN HE JOINED THE ROYAL CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AND WAS EMPLOYED AS AN AERO MECHANIC. IN OCTOBER OF THAT SAME YEAR HE MARRIED HANNAH CLARKSON IN VULCAN, HARRIS FINISHED HIS TRAINING IN CALGARY
