Leonard Eric Northcott, of Vulcan , formerly of Milo passed away January 7, 2003 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 90 years.
Leonard was born August 24, 1912 near Milo, Alberta to Charles and Clara Northcott. He attended school at Kirkland and finished his last year in Milo. Following that he then attended agricultural school in Claresholm from 1928 to 1929. He began farming on his father’s homestead 7 miles south and west of Milo in 1938, also renting the Christofferson farm prior to purchasing it. On July 10, 1948, he married Amy Tuttle, of Vulcan at Central United Church in Calgary. They were both very active in the Milo community and always loved to participate in social events, especially when music was involved. Leonard taught himself to read music and played the saxophone with the Milo Smoke Ring’s orchestra for twenty-five consecutive New Year’s dances, as well as many other functions. He was known to enjoy the music of Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians, follow the activities of his grandchildren, and to get his blood pressure up following Canadian politics or watching Hockey Night in Canada–on the edge of his seat. Leonard was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church, serving there as treasurer for many years. In his younger days, Leonard loved to hunt ducks and geese as well as to curl, participating in Milo, and as far away as in Fernie and Nelson. In his later years, Leonard joined the morning coffee crowd at the Milo Café and continued to attend to the on goings of the farm. Leonard’s wife Amy passed away in 1972 and he remained on the farm until moving to the Peter Dawson Lodge in 1997.
