NORTHCOTT, Janetta (Osler) – July 16, 1921 – August 26, 2020. Having celebrated 99 years of life, Janetta passed into heaven with family at her side.
A farm wife, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she passed with peace and dignity. Married to Harold for 74+ years, Janetta was the second of 3 children, born in Bassano to Bill and Ann (Nettie) Osler, and lived most of her life on her parents’ homestead near Milo, AB.
When Janetta married Harold, she boarded the train in Calgary to travel to St Thomas, ON where Harold was stationed in the Air Force during World War II. They moved to Pearce, AB when their first son Darrel was born and then back to Vulcan and to Milo after the War. They moved back to the Northcott homestead near Milo, AB and then to Janetta’s (Osler) family homestead 15 miles away, where they farmed and raised their family of seven children. Janetta was always busy as farm wives are, caring for her family, baking, sewing, quilting, volunteering in the community, harvesting garden vegetables and driving truck during harvest. For her 80th birthday, Janetta was humbled, honored and happy to share her cooking and baking recipes in her cookbook that family put together for her. This is part of her legacy and she was always happy to hear when people used one of her recipes.
They continued to live independently on the farm to the ages of 97 and 94 when they relocated to Okotoks and finally to Father Lacombe Care Centre in Calgary.
Janetta is predeceased by her beloved husband Harold, her oldest son Darrel and oldest daughter, Clara. She is survived by her children Alan (Gail), Sharon (Bryant), Art (Darlene), Kathy, Murray (Terri) and daughter-in-law Janice; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2020, following current Health Order guidelines, at the Osler/Northcott farmstead. Interment at O’ Perfect Peace Cemetery, Milo, Alberta.
Any tributes in Janetta’s memory can be made to the Milo Ag Society, Friends of Milo Library (Box 30), or Milo and District Fire Association (Box 65, Milo, AB T0L 1L0).

My Sincere Condolences to the Northcott Families on the passing of a very Dear Lady. Always will remember the wonderful visits we had with your mom & dad at the Milo Community Campouts every July. They were such down to earth people. Sad for your loss of your mom. Enjoy all the memories!!
Our love and sympathy to all of the Northcott family. Janetta was a very dear family friend and will be missed. When I lived on the farm with Mom, she never missed making me my favorite burnt sugar cake for my birthday every year, and she not only made one for me, she also made one for Sharon, whose birthday is the same day as mine! She was kind and generous as a friend and neighbour, having been a friend to my Mom since they were babies. And what a talented cook and seamstress! Thank goodness for her cookbook, which I use on a regular basis (thanks kids, for organizing that!). Rest In Peace dear friend…… Joan and Lyle
My Deepest Sympathy to Janetta’s family. I always enjoyed my visits with her and Harold so much. They were always so interested in everything around them and always willing to share their knowledge. They had so many great adventures. I still check out her cookbook , I know her recipes are tried and true. My heart goes out to all of you, I know you have many beautiful memories to share and they will bring you peace in the days and years ahead.
Sharon, Bryant, and all the members of The Northcott Family … my sympathy goes out to you on the passing of Janetta! What a marvellous woman she was … and what a long and rewarding life she lived! Truly … she pretty much “saw it all” and the memories she had and the stories she could tell were without end! Her long and very happy marriage to Harold was a great blessing … as was her large extended family. Janetta’s life was truly “a life well lived”, and while she will be deeply missed by all those who love her she is one of those unique people who really “left their mark” … and made the world a better place!
