ANDREW MORRIS “ANDY” NAFZIGER PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT LITTLE BOX AUXILLARY, CARMANGAY, ALBERTA ON JANUARY 29, 1997 AT THE AGE OF 80 YEARS.
ANDREW WAS BORN ON THE FARM HIS PARENTS HOMESTEADED N.W. 36-17~24-W4TH ON AUGUST 29, 1916. HE RECEIVED HIS EDUCATION AT THE MAYVIEW AND SNAKE VALLEY SCHOOLS. IN THE MID THIRTIES ANDREW WORKED WITH MORRISON CONSTRUCTION DEVELOPING HIGHWAY NUMBER TWO, SOUTH OF HIGH RIVER. LATER IN THE THIRTIES HE WORKED ON THE B.J. MENSINGER FARM, AS ONE OF THE HIRED HANDS. IN 1942 ANDY ENLISTED IN THE RC.A.F. TRAINING AS AN AIRFRAME MECHANIC. HIS CAREER TOOK HIM TO MEDICINE HAT, HALIFAX, YARMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA AND MONCTON N.B., WHERE HE SERVED UNTIL HIS DISCHARGE IN AUGUST 1945. UPON RECEIVING HIS DISCHARGE HE RETURNED HOME TO HELP WITH THE FAMILY FARM, AND ALSO WORKED DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, PLOWING SNOW FOR THE MUNICIPALITY. IN 1947, HE PURCHASED THE WEST I/2 OF 26-27-24-W4TH AND BEGAN FARMING ON HIS OWN. ON JUNE 25TH , 1948 ANDY MARRIED MARJORIE CORNER, AND TOGETHER THEY WORKED THE FARMLAND FOR OVER THREE DECADES. IN 1979 THEY SOLD THEIR FARMLAND, BUT CONTINUED TO LIVE IN THE HOUSE AT THE FARM UNTIL MOVING TO VULCAN IN 1987.
ANDREW ENJOYED FISHING , CAMPING, GOOD FRIENDS, AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING AND ABLE TO ASSIST ANYONE WHEN AND IF THEY REQUIRED HELP. HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, AND TOOK GREAT PRIDE IN ASSISTING WITH THE WHEAT COUNTRY II HISTORY BOOK. ANDY ENJOYED HIS MANY TRIPS OVERSEAS TO ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, GERMANY, HAWAII, AND TRAVELING THE UNITED STATES.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MARJORIE NAFZIGER FOR 48 YEARS, A SISTER RUTH (VERN) DYE OF OLDS, A BROTHER—IN-LAW DAVID (MURIEL) CORNER OF CALGARY,THREE NIECES, THREE NEPHEWS, THREE GRANDNIECES, FIVE GRANDNEPHEWS AND NUMEROUS COUSINS IN ALBERTA AND ONTARIO. ANDREW WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS, HIS BROTHER JACK, AND THREE SISTERS.
FUNERAL SERVICE SATURDAY FEBRUARY 1, 1997 AT 1:30 P.M. AT CENTRAL CHURCH OF CHRIST WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
