Agnes Lucille Morseth, of Vulcan, Alberta passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Centre on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the age of 84 years.
Agnes was born January 6, 1920 in Champion, Alberta to Arthur and Anne Engen. Agnes attended Sunny Lake school north of the Engen farm. Growing up she assisted her mother around the house and feeding the family and farm workers. She learned how to cook several cultural foods including Norwegian and Swedish dishes. Following her education, Agnes worked for the Matlock family and also as a clerk in Vulcan for a short period of time. During the war, she worked in a Munition plant in Ontario. On March 15, 1953 she married Leonard Morseth and they began their union together on the Morseth farm west of Milo. Soon afterwards they moved to the John Lucas farm east of Vulcan on the Lomond road. Following Leonard’s death in 1978, Agnes moved into Vulcan and worked at the Vulcan Extendicare in Dietary cooking for several years. In 1986 Agnes and her son Lorne built their house in Vulcan where she has resided until moving into the Long Term Care Unit of the Vulcan Community Health Unit in 2003.
Agnes was a lady of many talents. She spent many hours with her children helping them with their music lessons. Even though she couldn’t drive due to poor eyesight, she made sure they always got to their music lessons and hockey practices and games. Agnes also had a green thumb, growing her vegetable and flower gardens and had lovely house plants with some of the best African Violets around the community.
Agnes took a great deal of pride in the relationships that she had with her two grandchildren. She was very involved in their lives and was always there for them. She was a lady who continually saw the positive side of life and was concerned for everyone else. Agnes had a lot of spirit and was very honest with her opinions.
