MORRISON, Janet Lorraine 1971 – 2005

Janet Lorraine Morrison of Claresholm passed away May 21, 2005 at the Claresholm General Hospital after a short but very courageous battle with cancer at the age of 33 years.

Janet was born May 25, 1971 the daughter of Bill and Ethel Harcus of Rossland, B.C. She completed her grade schooling in Rossland and went on the Selkirk College in Castlegar, B.C. where she studied nursing and Industrial First Aide. While attending college Janet worked as a paramedic with the Castlegar Ambulance. Following her graduation she worked part time nursing at Nakusp and New Denver while continuing to work with the Castlegar Ambulance. Janet was a Medical trainer for the Castlegar Rebels Hockey Team. She was the first woman trainer for a hockey team in B.C. Janet was so good at this that the Merritt Hockey team offered her a position and even guaranteed her a job at the hospital if she would come and work for them. Janet declined and went to Vancouver to take specialty training in emergency nursing. After earning her degree she started working at the Richmond Hospital in Emergency. Janet met Paul and moved to Calgary where she worked at Bow Valley and Peter Lougheed Hospitals in their emergency departments. Following the birth of their son Braden, she took a position with the Vulcan Community Health Centre as the Primary Care Leader and then in the fall of 2004 went to the High River Hospital where she was employed as the clinical co-ordinator of the Emergency Department and Operating Room. Janet never quit taking courses and had many certificates. She was working towards her Masters and had been accepted in the Nurse Practitioner program. Janet had her Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate and was qualified to teach both adult and pediatric ACLS. One of the many accomplishments Janet was especially proud of was occasionally being part of the S.T.A.R.S Team.

Janet married Paul Morrison and had two children, Braden and Paige. For as much as Janet was dedicated to her nursing career, her family was the most important part of her life. They first lived in Vulcan and in 2002 moved to Claresholm where they have resided since. Janet and Paul enjoyed many holidays together traveling, the most recent being a family trip to Disneyland in April, 2005. Besides family and nursing Janet enjoyed scrap booking and getting together with her friends. She especially enjoyed her summers at the lake in New Denver, B.C. with her family.

Janet leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband Paul, son Braden, daughter Paige, her parents Bill and Ethel Harcus, a brother Glen Harcus (Drena), their children Emily, Mitchell and Miranda, father-in-law Cecil Morrison (Marie Dorion), brother-in-law Dale Morrison (Kim Manning) and Dale’s daughter Christian Pinnock.

Janet was predeceased by her grandparents Harry and Alma Lefevre, William and Irene Harcus, a grandmother-in-law Fran L’Ecuyer and mother-in-law Bridget Morrison.
