MONNER, LAWRENCE WILLIAM, DIED SUDDENLY MAY 26, 1992 NEAR MILO, ALBERTA AT THE AGE OF 85 YEARS.
LAWRENCE WAS BORN MARCH 30, 1907 IN TACOMA, WASHINGTON AND CAME WITH HIS PARENTS BROTHER AND SISTER TO MILO AT THE AGE OF 7 YEARS IN 1914. HE FARMED ALL OF HIS LIFE AND HE ALWAYS CLAIMED THAT HE BEGAN HIS FIRST JOB DRIVING A HAY RAKE AT THE AGE OF 9 YEARS. HE FILED ON A HOMESTEAD IN THE PEACE RIVER COUNTRY, WHERE HE LIVED FOR TWO YEARS, THEN RETURNED TO MILO AND MARRIED DOROTHY JACKSON IN JUNE OF 1937. THEY MOVED INTO AND LATER PURCHASED THE GLAMBECK PLACE IN THE MILO AREA. LAWRENCE WAS AN INTEGRAL PART OF TELEPHONE, POWER AND THE SEED CLEANING PLANT COMING INTO THE MILO AREA. HIS DEVOTION TO THE COMMUNITY WHERE HE LIVED WAS PARAMOUNT IN HIS LIFE. HE WAS ALWAYS READY TO LEND A HAND OR MONEY TO HELP HIS NEIGHBOUR. SO MUCH SO, THAT HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN STARTING THE MILO WELFARE FUND, TO HELP PEOPLE WHO SUFFERED LOSSES. HE WAS A PAST MEMBER OF THE MILO LIONS CLUB.
HE HELPED ORGANIZE AND CONSTRUCT MANY COMMUNITY BUILDINGS. HIS SENSE OF HUMOUR WAS WELL KNOWN, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS DIRECTED TOWARDS HIM SELF AND HIS MISFORTUNES.
A KIND GENTLE MAN WITH A GREAT LOVE FOR HIS FELLOW MAN AND A RESPECT FOR NATURE. IN HIS LATER YEARS, HE DEVELOPED AN INTEREST IN READING ABOUT THE TIMES HE LIVED THROUGH AND THE PLACES HE LIVED IN, FROM MINING IN THE ROCKIES TO PIONEERING IN THE PEACE RIVER COUNTRY.
HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. DOROTHY MONNER OF MILO AND LOVING FATHER OF A DAUGHTER DIANNE MONNER OF MILO, THREE SONS KEN OF OTTAWA, JOHN (ROSEMARY) OF MILO AND GEORGE (PAT) OF FAIRVIEW, THIRTEEN GRANDCHILDREN, FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, A BROTHER BOB (MURIEL) OF MILO, TWO SISTERS WINNIE WASER OF MILO AND FRANCES (ROSS) BERTRAND OF LETHBRIDGE, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY TWO BROTHERS WILBUR AND WAYNE AND HIS PARENTS MICHAEL AND MYRTLE.
FUNERAL SERVICE SATURDAY, MAY 30 AT 1:30 P.M. AT MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING. CREMATION TO FOLLOW.
