James “Bob” Monner, of Milo passed away April 6, 2003 at the Vulcan Community Health Center at the age of 81 years.
Bob was born April 9, 1921 at Gleichen, Alberta to Michael and Myrtle (nee: Baker). He attended Pioneer School for eight years, then Milo and completed High School at Western Canada High in Calgary. Bob joined the RCAF on September 1, 1941, trained as a mechanic in Edmonton and St. Thomas, Ontario. He served in Mont Joli, Quebec, then served with the 426 Bomber Squadron at Linton on Ouse, England.
Bob met Muriel Shepherd during the war and they were married on June 9, 1945 in York, England. They returned to farm in the Milo area where Bob has continued to farm until his passing.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Muriel of Milo, two sons Michael (Monica) Monner, Barry (Joanne) Monner all of Milo, five grandchildren Colin, Erin, Jennifer, Rachel and Chad, a sister Francis (Ross) Bertrand of Lethbridge, a sister-in-law Ann Fletcher of York England, numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Michael and Myrtle, three brothers Wayne, Wilbur and Lawrence, a sister Winnie Waser, two brothers-in-law Neville and Harold of York.
Memorial Service for Bob was held on Saturday April 12, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Milo Community Hall with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.
Honorary bearers were Joe Thomson, Ralph Umscheid, Hap Heather, Ross Bertrand, Bob Deitz, Harold Northcott.
