Vivian Almeda Milliken, passed away peacefully April 7, 2002 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 91 years.
Vivian was born January 8, 1911 at Carmangay, the youngest of five children born to Henry and Emma Frank. She was raised on her parents homestead and attended Blackspring Ridge School. While growing up, Vivian learned her homemaking skills at her mothers side. In 1931 she married Lynn Milliken and together they began their lives together at Carmangay. She enjoyed being a farmers wife, and soon began raising their family. In January of 1999, when her household chores became too difficult to maintain on her own, she chose to move to Vulcan Extendicare, where she has resided since.
Vivian loved her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them all and her grandchildren will fondly remember her candy drawer, cookie drawer, button box, playing cribbage, and warming their toes after skating. She was a great hostess always welcoming guests to her dinner table. She also enjoyed sewing, handiwork, crocheting, gardening, crossword puzzles, soap operas and playing cards.
Loving mother of a daughter Audrey (Henry) Braun of Carmangay, a son Gordon (Audrey) Milliken of Lethbridge, five grandchildren Lindsay Braun of Lethbridge, Sheldon (Darlene) Braun of Redcliff, Shannon (Norman) Kittleson of Barons, Logan Milliken , Lee (Nicole) Milliken all of Calgary, five great grandsons, three step-great-grandsons and their families, numerous nieces and nephews.
Vivian was predeceased by her husband in 1978, a grandson, twin great granddaughters, a great grandson and their mother Kristina, three brothers, a sister and her parents.
Her life was dedicated to the family, she was always there to offer gentle words of encouragement or to simply listen. We will cherish fond memories of an extraordinary Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family.
At Vivian’s request there will not be a formal funeral service conducted. Her immediate family will gather to say their goodbyes at a Private Graveside Service at Carmangay Cemetery.
