Middleton, Frank Blain, beloved husband and father passed away April 15, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 70 years..
Blain was born on February 20, 1939 at Vulcan, Alberta to Bob and Irma (Rannels) Middleton. His early years of school were at Kirkcaldy and he finished high school in Vulcan. Blain married Lynn (Spaeth) in 1960 and they began their married life on the family farm near Kirkcaldy. He loved to farm and his joy was driving the tractor or combine. Blain couldn’t wait to start seeding in the spring and enjoyed watching the crops grow and turn golden in the fall. His love after farming was family. Blain loved to talk and visit with his extended family and took an interest in all of them. This was evident during the hundredth anniversary of the family farm. Also for twenty years International Agricultural Exchange Association students from around the world were also part of the family.
Blain was always there to help with the community projects that were on the go. He helped with the construction of the Vulcan Arena and spear-headed the committee to establish the Sunshine Gas Co-op. Blain also sat on the Hog Producers Board. Despite all of this, he always found time to golf. Blain loved many sports such as basketball, volleyball, curling, and was catcher for juvenile baseball. Blain and Lynn enjoyed travelling and visited many places including Europe, the British Isles, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand and Viet Nam.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wade, Brenda Findlay, and all staff at the Vulcan Community Health Centre for their wonderful care of Blain and for being so kind to the family. This community is blessed to have this marvelous centre.
Blain is survived by his loving wife Lynn, two sons August (Brenda) of Vulcan, Mark (Hong) of Lethbridge, daughter Krista Christensen of Chestermere, granddaughters Alexandria of Nanton and Bridgett Tyler of Halifax, NS., grandsons Lucas of Nanton and Matthew Christensen of Calgary, brother Barry (Audrey), step-brothers Gerald Wobick of Lethbridge, Wayne Wobick of Calgary, Ron (Marguerite) Wobick of Barons, two sisters-in-law Charlene and Betty Spaeth both of Vulcan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
