Fay Lois McNiven, of Vulcan, went to meet her Lord and Saviour April 3, 2002 at the age of 82 years at the High River Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Fay was born on March 2, 1920 to Charles and Margaret Steiner. She received her early education at Cottonwood Grove School and then went to Western Canada High School in Calgary, staying with her grandmother. After her mother’s death in 1936 she came home to help her father. In 1939 Fay and her friend Megan Williams went to dressmaking school in Calgary. In 1942 she married her childhood sweetheart, Jim McNiven, and together they raised a family of six.

Fay loved her family especially her grandchildren and her great grandchild. She loved to bake and sew, always trying out new ideas and new recipes. She enjoyed life on the farm, watching the baby calves and the songbirds from her window.

Fay was active in the community as a member of the Candlelight Ladies, the Cottonwood Good Deeds Club and the Extendicare Ladies Auxiliary. She was recognized with a long service award by Alberta 4H in 1996.

Fay is survived by her daughter Carol (Don) Wright of Didsbury, by five sons Daniel (Bonnie) of Ontario, Jim(Cathie) of Vulcan,  Michael(Kathy) and Peter (Gail) all of Cessford, Tom(Joanne) of Vulcan. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Ron (Laura) McNiven Casey (Leah) Wright, Lexi Wright, Ella Wright, Malcolm (Joanne) McNiven, Roy McNiven, Colin (Celeste) McNiven, Mary Ann McNiven, Kevin McNiven, Shari McNiven, Daniel McNiven, James McNiven, Christa McNiven, Randy McNiven and Daine McNiven and by a great grandchild Joshua Daniel McNiven. Fay also leaves to mourn her brothers Carl (Marcella)Steiner, Gerry (Ethel) Steiner, three sisters-in-law: Jessie McNiven, Elsie Willard and Mary McNiven, two brothers-in-law: Dan (Vickie) McNiven, Blake Springer, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Charlie and Margaret Steiner, her sister Allegra (Bert) Gorman, an infant sister Margaret an infant brother Charles, three nephews: Randy Steiner, James Gorman and Gregory Steiner, a niece Louella Gorman, in-laws: Don (Megan) McNiven, Charlie McNiven, Jack Willard, Mae Springer and Frank McNiven.

Funeral Service was held Saturday April 6, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at the Central Church of Christ Vulcan with Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.

Interment Vulcan Cemetery.
