GOLDIE “MAE” McMULLEN, FORMERLY OF THE UNION JACK DISTRICT, PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE, VULCAN, ALBERTA ON NOVEMBER 6, 1998 AT THE AGE OF 96 YEARS.

MAE WAS BORN APRIL 24, 1902 IN YORK, NORTH DAKOTA, TO LAWRENCE AND MARGARET JARRETT. SHE MOVED WITH HER PARENTS TO HIGH RIVER THE SAME YEAR. MAE ATTENDED SCHOOL THERE, WHEN HER FATHER MOVED TO THE FARM, HER MOTHER AND MAE MOVED TO KINGS GATE, WHERE HER MOTHER WORKED. THEN HER YOUNGEST BROTHER CAME TO LIVE WITH THEM. THEN THEY MOVED TO CRANBROOK AND ON TO SPOKANE WHERE SHE ATTENDED SCHOOL OFF AND ON AND SPENT A WINTER IN THE SPOKANE CHILDREN’S HOME.

IN 1916 SHE CAME TO VULCAN AT THE AGE OF 14 YEARS. SHE BEGAN WORKING AT THE VULCAN TELEPHONE OFFICE AND RESIDED IN THE BACK OFFICE. HER JOB WAS ANSWERING PHONE AND DELIVERING MESSAGES AROUND TOWN TO THOSE WHO HAD NO PHONE.

SHE HAD KNOWN HER HUSBAND TO BE, WILLIAM “BILLY” McMULLEN, SINCE THE AGE OF FOUR YEARS. WHEN THEY MET AGAIN THEY MARRIED IN JULY 1919 AND LIVED ON A FARM IN THE UNION JACK DISTRICT. THEY MOVED TO OREGON FOR A SHORT TIME THEN THEY RETURNED TO THE FAMILY FARM..

IN 1969 THEY CELEBRATED THERE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AT THE UNION JACK HALL AND THEN 1979 CELEBRATED THEIR SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY. THERE WERE MANY GOOD TIMES, GOOD FRIENDS AND FOND MEMORIES.

MAE MOVED INTO THE PETER DAWSON LODGE IN 1984 WHERE SHE RESIDED UNTIL MOVING TO EXTENDICARE IN 1993 WHERE SHE HAS RESIDED SINCE.

MAE LOVED HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS. , SHE ALWAYS HAD AN OPINION AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO SHARE IT. SHE ENJOYED TALKING TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. SHE WAS INVOLVED IN MOST COMMUNITY EVENTS INCLUDING THE EASTWAY LADIES. MAE WAS A MEMBER OF THE CENTRAL CHURCH OF CHRIST AND THE CANDLELIGHT CIRCLE LADIES, THE HIGH RIVER PIONEER AND OLD TIMES CLUB AND VULCAN DROP-IN CENTER.

MAE HAD A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR, A CONTAGIOUS LAUGH AND COULD OFTEN SEE HUMOR IN HER ACTIONS. SHE LOVED THE NAME HER PARENTS GAVE HER,“GOLDIE”, AIN’T IT RITZY! SHE WOULD SAY.

LOVING MOTHER OF FIVE DAUGHTERS WILLIENA (NORMAN) TWISS, NEOMA (VILNES) NAGLINS, PATRICIA (AL) LUCORE, ALL OF OREGON, EVIE (BILL) CHOMA OF CALGARY, MARJORIE (LARRY) LANG OF AIRDRIE, A SON LESLIE “SONNY” (HELEN) McMULLEN OF VULCAN, FOURTEEN GRANDCHILDREN, THIRTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND TWO GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

MAE WAS PREDECEASED BY HER HUSBAND WILLIAM IN 1985, A SON CALVIN, TWO BROTHERS LESLIE JARRETT AND GLEN JARRETT, A SON-IN-LAW NORMAN TWISS AND HER PARENTS.

FUNERAL SERVICE TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10 , 1998 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN CENTRAL CHURCH OF CHRIST WITH REV. DOUG BARRIE OFFICIATING.

INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
