MCMORRIS, Gary George  1947 – 2001

GARY GEORGE McMORRIS OF MILO PASSED AWAY DECEMBER 27, 2001 AT THE VULCAN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER, SURROUNDED BY HIS FAMILY AT THE AGE OF 54 YEARS.

GARY WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 28, 1947 IN CALGARY, ALBERTA TO GEORGE AND LILLIAN McMORRIS. HE RECEIVED ALL OF HIS PRIMARY SCHOOLING AT MILO, GRADUATING IN 1965. GARY THEN ATTENDED S.A.I.T. FOR TWO YEARS TAKING AGRICULTURE MECHANICS. IN 1967 HE MOVED TO WILLIAMS LAKE WHERE HIS FATHER HAD PURCHASED THE RIVER RANCH AT RISKE CREEK, B.C. GARY WORKED AND RESIDED THERE UNTIL THE RANCH WAS SOLD IN 1970 WHEN HE MOVED BACK TO QUEENSTOWN AND STARTED FARMING AGAIN. IN 1972 HE MARRIED BRENDA MEADOWS OF BLACKIE AND TOGETHER THEY RESIDED ON THE FAMILY FARM RAISING THEIR FAMILY. IN 1979 THEY BUILT A NEW HOME. GARY WORKED THE LAND AND RAISED CATTLE WITH HIS PARENTS. HIS FATHER GEORGE DIED IN 1988 AND GARY CONTINUED TO OPERATE A GRAIN AND SIMMENTAL-CROSS CATTLE OPERATION, WHICH IS STILL IN OPERATION TODAY.

GARY LOVED HIS FAMILY AND WAS EXTREMELY PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. HE ENJOYED THE SPECIAL TIMES THAT THEY SHARED TOGETHER. HE WAS AN ACTIVE PART OF HIS CHILDREN’S LIVES, ATTENDING NUMEROUS SCHOOL FUNCTIONS, SPORTING EVENTS, JOINING THEM ON THE SKI SLOPES, BOATING AND WATER SKIING AT THE FAMILY CABIN AT LITTLE BOW PARK.

GARY WAS INTERESTED IN ALL ISSUES THAT INVOLVED FARMING. HE WAS A DELEGATE OF THE ALBERTA POOL, SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE WESTERN STOCK GROWERS ASSOCIATION AND A DELEGATE AND DIRECTOR OF THE ALBERTA CATTLE COMMISSION. THIS PAST YEAR HE SERVED AS GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS CHAIRMAN.

BELOVED HUSBAND OF BRENDA McMORRIS OF MILO, LOVING FATHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS ALEXIS , MORGAN, TWO SONS WYATT (FIANCÉ CHRISTINE GILES OF VULCAN), KALE, ALL OF MILO, AND BY SPECIAL FAMILY FRIENDS SCOTT SCOBIE AND MIKE FULTON, MOTHER LILLIAN McMORRIS OF MILO, A SISTER WENDY (LARRY) HELLAND OF LOMOND, FATHER AND MOTHER-IN-LAW ROY AND MIM MEADOWS OF OKOTOKS, TWO HALF SISTERS DENE AMADORE OF PONOKA, BYRLA (GORDON) MARSHALL OF HIGH RIVER, TWO SISTERS-IN-LAW BENITA (GREG) PERCIVAL OF BLACKIE, RHONDA (ROD) CANSDALE OF OKOTOKS, NUMEROUS AUNTS, UNCLES, NIECES, NEPHEWS AND COUSINS.

GARY WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER GEORGE.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE MEMORIAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY JANUARY 2, 2002 AT 1:30 P.M. MILO COMMUNITY HALL WITH REV. ROB MOORE AND REV. ED SUMMERS CO-OFFICIATING.

HONORARY BEARERS MIKE AND MONICA MONNER, LORNE AND PAT MILLER, LARRY AND TERESA FINLEY, LYLE AND JOAN WINCH, BERNIE AND DARLENE McWILLIAM.

CREMATION.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS TRIBUTES IN GARY’S MEMORY COULD BE MADE TO EITHER THE PALLIATIVE CARE UNIT BOX 299 VULCAN TOL 2BO OR THE ALBERTA CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL 1820 RICHMOND RD. S.W. CALGARY T2T 5T7.
