MCLEAN, ALLAN PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME IN CHAMPION, ALBERTA SEPTEMBER 3, 1995 AT THE AGE OF 82 YEARS.
ALLAN WAS BORN IN THE HILL NURSING HOME AT CARMANGAY, ALBERTA ON APRIL, 17, 1913. HE WAS THE SECOND SON OF FRANCES AND ANGUS MCLEAN. HE BEGAN SCHOOL AT WASHINGTON SCHOOL WHERE HE AND HIS BROTHER WOULD WALK THE ONE MILE ACROSS THE FIELD TO ATTEND. IN HIS SECOND YEAR, THE FAMILY MOVED TO COCHRANE TO A RANCH, WHERE ALLAN ATTENDED WEEDEN SCHOOL. FOLLOWING SEVERE WEATHER AND POOR HEALTH OF HIS FATHER, THE FAMILY RETURNED TO THE FARM SOUTHWEST OF CHAMPION, WHERE ALLAN ATTENDED BOW VALLEY SCHOOL AND THEN HE RODE SIX MILES ON HIS BICYCLE TO HIGH SCHOOL IN CHAMPION AND EACH YEAR ALLAN FROM AGE ELEVEN STAYED OUT OF SCHOOL TO HELP WITH SEEDING AND HARVEST. AFTER THE SECOND WAR ALLAN TOOK UP FLYING AS A SPORT AND HAD BECOME A PART OWNER OF AN “AERONCA” PLANE.
ALLAN MARRIED BARBARA DOW OF CHAMPION APRIL 23, 1951 AND THEY RESIDED ON THE ORIGINAL MCLEAN FARM WHERE HE FARMED UNTIL RETIRING AND MOVING INTO TOWN.
ALLAN WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY AND SERVED AS SECRETARY OF FIREGUARD R.E.A FOR TWENTY YEARS, PAST PRESIDENT OF HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION, THE LIBRARY ASSOCIATION, STEWARD OF THE CHAMPION UNITED CHURCH, WORTHY PATRON FERROWDALE CHAPTER NO.65 OF THE ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR, CHAMPION, PAST DISTRICT DEPUTY GRAND MASTER OF DISTRICT No.11 A.F.& A.M, A MEMBER OF THE ROBERT BURNS MASONIC LODGE, CARMANGAY, CHAMPION MASONIC LODGE AND #74 VULCAN LODGE. ALLAN ENJOYED THE WORK OF LODGE.
ALLAN SERVED AS MUNICIPAL COUNCILLOR WHEN THE COUNTY OF VULCAN WAS FORMED. HE WAS LIKED BY EVERYONE AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP WHERE HE COULD.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF BARBARA MCLEAN OF CHAMPION, LOVING FATHER OF A SON DANA (ALANA) OF MISSISSAUGA, ONT., TWO GRANDCHILDREN RYAN AND AUDRA, A BROTHER ROBERT (GWEN) AND A SISTER OLIVE (CLIFF) O’REILLY ALL OF CALGARY, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
FUNERAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 1995 AT 2 P.M. AT CHAMPION UNITED CHURCH WITH REV. DON WATT OFFICIATING.
