Marsollier, Berthe Marie passed away May 8, 2009 at Vulcan Community Health Centre, Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 90 years.
Berthe was born On March 20th, 1919 to Alma L’Heureux and Honore (Henri)Alain of Delmas Saskatchewan. Berthe’s parents were early prairie pioneers. Her father was born in Quebec; her mother born in St. Boniface Winnipeg. When Bertha was 11 years old her parents moved to White Poplar (later renamed Veillardville) in the Hudson Bay area to homestead, where she learned to speak English with her many siblings. Berthe moved to Flin Flon Manitoba at the age of 16. She met Paul Sylvester Marsollier in Flin Flon, married at 19 and settled down to enjoy raising 4 children.
Berthe is predeceased by her husband Paul Marsollier, her siblings, Yvonne, Rolland, Moise (Smokey), Edithe, Louis, Marie-Paule, and Paul; her sisters-in-law Verna, Yvonne, and Rene and her brothes-in-law, Gene, Pat, Harry, Ray and Angus. Left to mourn are her children Norbert (Shirley), Roger (Suzanne), Allen (Marilyn), and Cathy. Also left to remember their grandmother with love are her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michelle, Marcia, Melinda, Melissa, Cameron, Renee, Clinton, Gillian, Brigitte, Joseph, Tessa, Chase, Chelsea, Tianna, Noah, MaKayla, Christopher, Jason, Mark, and Kyle.
Berthe enjoyed a good life among the lakes and rocks of Northern Manitoba, starting her married life in a small cabin on the shores of Phantom Lake. She loved playing bridge, camping, fishing and socializing with friends and family. Relatives and friends will remember her after-church-on-Sunday flapjacks. All coveted her doughboy invitations. An avid cook of the wild meats and fish caught by and with her husband, Berthe also passed her knowledge of Northern skills onto a younger generation of family and friends. If there ever were a fish-filleting contest, she would have won. Her pickerel fries were the best.
Upon her and Paul’s retirement, they traveled south to the Mexican border joining a community of expats in Pharr, Texas for 15 years during the winter months. There they swam, played cards, walked and enjoyed a balmy climate. Returning to Flin Flon was a welcome yearly event. Eventually health helped them choose a winter location in Vernon, BC. Berthe welcomed a new adventure when she moved to Vulcan Alberta to be nearer her children after Paul’s passing. She met many new friends over coffee, cards, and shuffleboard in her new home at the Lodge; and a very dear friend, Jim.

Memorial Mass was held Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Vulcan with Reverend Father Philip Van Tinh Le officiating.
