MANSON, Pastor Vaughn Herbert 1971 – 2013

December 16th 2013, Vaughn Manson, our beloved friend, pastor, brother, son, father and husband, went to be with the love of his life, his Lord, his savior Jesus Christ. Vaughn will always be remembered for his love for life, others and his family.

He was born in Whitehorse, Yukon. June 30th 1971 to parents Herb and Carol Manson. He grew up in Calgary, AB and then received his ministry credentialing from Northwest Baptist College in Langley, BC.

He married the love of his life, Tara Lobb, July 17, 1993 and together they entered ministry serving several years at Westborne Baptist, the church he grew up in, and then moving to Arrowwood Gospel Church in June 2000 where he served the church and community to present.

Vaughn had a wide variety of interests; he loved airplanes, war history, gopher eradication and volunteering on the Northwest Fire Protection Association.  Those who were close to him, know that you could describe him as “A Big Kid” because of the way he so enthusiastically loved life and enjoyed all the people around him.

Vaughn is survived by his mother Carol and his loving wife Tara Manson and their four children, Clayton (16), Shauna (15), Alana (12) and Jaylene (1). He is predeceased by his father Herb Manson and Uncle Ralph Zeilsdorf,

Vaughn will not be forgotten by those of us who knew and loved him. It is with great sorrow that we say farewell, but it is with profound hope and joy through Jesus Christ, the reason for this season, that we say “see you soon”.

Interment Arrowwood Cemetery Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life Everlasting at the Arrowwood Community Centre at 1:00 pm (Overflow at Arrowwood Gospel Church).

Tributes in Vaughn’s memory can be made through the Arrowwood Scotiabank (Box 29, Arrowwood, AB T0L 0B0) – Manson Family Fund.

Arrangements in care of Vulcan Funeral Home.  Telephone 1-403-485-2633. E-mail condolences through www.vulcanfuneralhome.ca.

Tara, I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Vaughn; I loved the guy. I still remember traveling across Canada with him on our way to Montreal. I would often stop at his place in Calgary on my way to and from Northwest; please give my condolences to his mom. I came across this obituary by chance; I was simply trying to find Vaughn over the Internet. I’m kind of shocked. Vaughn was full of life and always had a smile on his face. He had a way of making people around him smile. Perhaps what I remember most was his great humility… Please feel free to get in touch with me. I’d love to know that you’re doing okay. Hope this is able to get to you.

It was only by chance that I learned of Vaughn’s passing recently. I am another childhood friend of his, growing up on the same street in Huntington Hills. Vaughn was a part of an integral group of friends who always seemed to be doing things together, from playing games and having adventures on Nose Hill, to being a regular participant in what seemed to be an ongoing game of road hockey being played on the street. What I remember most about Vaughn was his positive nature. It’s hard to remember any time when he wasn’t smiling or laughing. It was infectious. Although it’s been 20 or so years since I last saw him, his passing leaves a hole in my heart. I can only imagine that such a good friend would be an even greater husband and father. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Should they ever need anything, even if his kids want to know more about their dad and his boyhood adventures, I would be honored to oblige. Take comfort in the fact your father and husband meant so much to so many.

I am saddened and sorry to hear of Vaughn’s passing. I lived on the same block as Vaughn and his family as I lived a few houses down from him on Huntsbay Road.

I knew Vaughn through the days of our childhood and the similar circle of friend’s growing up.

I attended Westbourne Baptist as a child going to Kindergarten.

One of my fond memories about Vaughn is his laugh and smile. Although it has been many years since I last saw Vaughn and family he was always a memorable person.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Carol, wife Tara and children.

With Love Inga Allison (known as Inga Ramcharitar)

Vaughn & I grew up together at Westbourne. I believe that we may have been founding members of the nursery!
We lived only a few blocks away from each other down the alley. We had many laughs and good times throughout the years, from many a ski trip, including pushing the car out of the ditch going up Scott Lake Hill, movies, numerous birthdays, camping, hanging out with our youth group after Sunday evening service. I remember one night Vaughn had on these white dress pants and had the courage to order home fries. It wasn’t long before there was a red ketchup pattern on those nice white pants!

Vaughn’s love for the Lord and for others was infectious. I have no doubt that Vaughn’s character will continue to live on in his family.

    Warm regards,
    Jason Mackenzie

    Tara and family:
Just wanted to add a note to say we are praying that you will continuously know God’s comfort and peace. I have fond memories of Vaughn’s ordination at Westbourne. He was bold and confident in his convictions even when he was challenged by those who didn’t agree with his views. Dorothy and I charish the memories we have of Vaughn.

We remember Vaughn from his youthful days at Westborne Baptist in Calgary – we had just moved from Ottawa and he took our daughter “under his wing” thus making the relocation easier for her. I am not surprised that he went into ministry. May God grant you peace and strength that can only come from Him……..with our love and prayer…………..
