WILLIAM (BILL) ARVID MALM PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL, APRIL 1ST, 1991 AT THE AGE OF 69 YEARS.

WILLIAM (BILL) WAS BORN MARCH 13, 1922 AT ENDIANG, ALBERTA. HE LIVED AT SCAPA WHERE HIS PARENTS OPERATED A RED AND WHITE GROCERY STORE. HE WAS EDUCATED IN HANNA.

APRIL 1ST, 1941 HE JOINED THE ARMY OF WORLD WAR II AT CALGARY. HE SERVED OVERSEAS AND SAW SERVICE IN ITALY, HOLLAND AND EUROPE WITH RCME (ENGINEERS). AFTER THE WAR, HE RE-ENLISTED IN OCTOBER 1951 WITH THE SERVICE CORPS IN POSTAL WORK, WHICH TOOK HIM TO THE MIDDLE EAST TOUR TO EGYPT AND GAZA STRIP IN 1965-66. A LIST OF HIS DECORATIONS INCLUDE 1939-45 STAR, ITALY STAR. AFTER ARMY SERVICES, BILL RETIRED AND JOINED THE POSTAL CORPORATION – SEVERAL POSTINGS INCLUDED LAMONT, YOUNGSTOWN, LAKE LOUISE AND VULCAN IN 1982 WHERE HE WAS POST MASTER UNTIL RETIREMENT IN 1987. BILL WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE WORK PLACE AND WILL BE RECALLED BY MANY. HE WAS BRANCH PRESIDENT FOR 3 SEPARATE TERMS FROM 1983 – 84, 1988-89 AND 1989-90. IN HIS RETIREMENT, BILL ENJOYED GOLFING.

BILL IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFE EILEEN OF VULCAN, 3 DAUGHTERS – KATHY AND LES LYE OF REGINA, MARGARET DEVRIES OF CALGARY, SHEILA AND JIM PICKERING OF CANMORE, GRANDCHILDREN – KAREN LYE OF TORONTO, SHYLA AND JASON PICKERING OF CANMORE, ALAN AND ERIN LYE OF SHILO, MB, MARK LYE OF SASKATOON, AND HIS TWIN SISTER MRS. MARGARET RIDDLE OF HANNA.

HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS PARENTS AND A SON-IN-LAW GERRIT DEVRIES.

CREMATION. MEMORIAL SERVICE AT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST TUESDAY, APRIL 4, 1991 AT 2 PM, REV. STACEY LANDRY OFFICIATING. INURNMENT IN THE FIELD OF HONOR, VULCAN CEMETERY, VULCAN, AB.
