Audrey Sigrid Mary Lucas was born on September 13, 1927 at Indian Head, Saskatchewan to Sigurd & Dorothy Henrickson. In 1929 they moved to the Armada area living in different places until 1939 when they moved to the farm that her parents lived until their passing. She did housekeeping for a neighbor in the area when she wasn’t helping her parents.
In the fall of 1945 at a dance in Milo she met the love of her life, Gordon Lucas who just returned from the war. They were married on November 26, 1946 at the West Hillhurst United Church in Calgary. They lived on his parents farm in Armada in a 2 room bunk house until his parents moved to Vulcan. At that time they moved into the big house. In 1950 the house burnt down.
Gordon went to the Prisoner of War camp in Lethbridge for lumber & rebuilt their home with the help of family & friends. They have 7 children, Charlean in 1947, Sheila in 1948, Dorothy in 1951, Wendy in 1952, Roy in 1955, Terry in 1959 & Alan in 1964.
She was very active in the community. She was a member of the Armada Unifarm for 10 years, Armada Community Club for 35 years, helping Gordon with 4-H for over 35 years. She loved to bake(sending bake goods to everyone ), cooking, do all kinds of crafts, sewing quilts for all the family (all her grandkids still love their “grandma quilt”), shopping, garage sales, playing cards & bingo. She loved watching curling & baseball on TV. She was known to many as be very outspoken & loved to argue usually winning the argument! They spent many weekends watching hockey or other sports that her kids were involved in. She loved having her family around her. She always looked forward visits from family & friends her door was always open.
They travelled to many places with friends, family & 4-H. The highlight was when they travelled to Holland for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Holland in May 1995.
Gordon passed away on October 4, 2003. She stayed on the farm till the fall of 2008 when she moved into the Golden Villa Seniors apartments in Lomond. In 2012 she moved into the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan. On November 2, 2016 when her health deteriorated she moved into Long Term Care in the Vulcan Hospital where she resided till her passing.
It was always her decision as to where she was going to live, this made all her moves so easy for her family. Audrey passed away with her family members at her bedside. The co-vid 19 pandemic made it hard for family to visit her during her final days but we were lucky to have one family member with her at all times till her passing on May 7, 2020. A family gathering will take place at a later date.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, her parents Sigurd & Dorothy Henrickson, her brothers Stanley, Maurice, Dennis & infant brother Russel. She is survived by her children, Charlean(Alan)Fisher of Vulcan, Sheila(Alvin)Winch of Milo, Dorothy(Lyle)Braunwarth of High River, Wendy Morton of Sundre, Royden(Gaye)Lucas of Lomond, Terry(Jim)Newton of Del Bonita & Alan(Kim) Lucas of Red Deer. She had 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great grandson on the way, as well as numerous other family members & many special friends.

Sending condolences to the entire family. Audrey was a great person. She will be missed by all who knew her.
I would like to express deepest sympathy to all of you on behalf of the Boyd family. We were neighbours for years. I was only nine when we dropped into the Henricksons one afternoon when Audrey and Gordon were engaged to be married. They were obviously very much in love and I remember thinking how lucky she was, as Gordon was such a handsome man. We will all have many cherished memories. Love, hugs and blessings to all!
We all have very fond memories of Audrey. Always enjoyed the baking she would have on hand whenever we went to pick up our order of “cackleberries” as Gordon would call them. She was always full of helpful advice. She was one of the backbones of the Armada Community. She will be missed by all of our families as well.
Very sad to hear of Audrey‘s passing. She was always such a sweet person to visit with. My mom truly enjoyed her company in Long Term Care.
