Ivo Erwin Love of Vulcan, passed away peacefully July 18, 2002 at Vulcan Community Health Centre surrounded by his family at the age of 85 years.
Ivo was born January 6, 1917 at Vulcan, Alberta to Thomas and Bertha Love. He attended the Red Cross school from grade one through eight. Following his education he worked on the family farm assisting his father until purchasing his own property at the Corner Store. In March of 1940 he married Gladys Bricklebank at Vulcan and they began their lives together. He worked as a general laborer helping with the construction of the Vulcan Industrial Airport for a winter, and then returned to farming. In 1949 they moved to the property NE1/4 8 18 24 W4 where he raised dairy cattle and farmed the land for the next thirty years. After renting the land to the Dunham’s, he would help anyway he could. He has continued to reside on the family farm ever since.
Ivo loved his family, especially his great granddaughter, Pheonix. She became the apple of his eye, and when she smiled it brought a smile to his face. His true passion in life was driving. From 1980 through 2000 he purchased a new FORD truck every year and racked on an easy 60,000 plus kilometers each year. He was known to take a road trip to Banff for lunch, or to Fernie and be back in Vulcan by noon, telling his family of his travels. He also enjoyed the mountains, fishing and big game hunting, taking several trips to Walter Gorzitza’s camp and sharing stories with his buddies. In his younger days he enjoyed time on the snowmobile, played baseball and hockey. Later in life he enjoyed watching baseball and hockey on T.V.
Ivo was a past member of the Vulcan Fish and Wildlife Association and volunteered with the Boy Scouts, when his boys were younger.
