Irvine John Lindstedt, of Vulcan, formerly of Lomond passed away July 21, 2002 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 79 years.
Irvine was born March 4, 1923 at Lomond, Alberta to Joseph and Eleanor Lindstedt. He received his education at Midway and Armada school. He then went to work at the Cross Ranch in Nanton for the next three winters where he drove cat clearing bush, returning to the family farm to work with his father the remainder of the year. He began purchasing land around the Lomond and Armada areas. He worked for MacPhersons as a farm hand for a few years, until his farming operation developed enough to keep him busy. Irvine raised cattle and grain farmed for several years. He moved into the Seniors Units in Lomond in 1994 where he resided for four years, until moving into the Peter Dawson Lodge in Vulcan in October of 1998. Irvine continued to make several trips to the farm, as his farming interests never changed. He has continued to reside at the Lodge ever since.
Irvine loved his family, spending time with each and every one of them. He was a kind and generous man. When he saw or heard of someone in need, he would assist them any way he could. Irvine was a man of many interests. He enjoyed the Casino. For several winters he would travel to Las Vegas and Reno to try his luck with the cards. He was especially good at playing poker and in the last year made 101 trips to the Casino in Calgary with Leroy Branden. He also was a connoisseur of fine foods, enjoying Kentucky Fried Chicken and fried pork chops . He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a certain flavor for deer meat. Irvine had a keen interest in auctions and garage sales, purchasing goods for himself, as well as others. It was stated he had one of the best vegetable gardens in the country.
Loving brother of two sisters Helen ( Albert) West of Lomond, Dagne (Stan) Maertz of Spruce Grove, a brother Henry (Earlene) Lindstedt of Nobleford, sister-in-law Marguerite Lindstedt of Calgary, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Irvine was predeceased by two brothers Arthur and Ralph and by his parents.
Funeral service at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond, Friday July 26, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Ed Summers officiating.
Casket bearers Oliver Hart, Marvin Henrickson, Wayne Volesky, Peter Degenstein Frank Tolsdorf and Alvin Koch.
Interment Bassano Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.
