LINDSAY, Mary (nee: Slater) was born on October 6, 1918 at Lorlie, SK.
Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Vulcan Community Health Centre, Long Term Care unit on October 3, 2011, just 3 days short of her 93rd birthday.
Mary grew up in Saskatchewan, east of Regina, moving to Laverna (north of Alsask) when she was seven years old. She experienced the harsh realities as well as the joys of family and neighbors during the 1920s and Dirty Thirties.
Mary had a calling to become a teacher. After attending Normal School in Calgary, she taught in a one-room school near Esther, Alberta, followed by teaching positions in Acadia Valley, Nanton, Pincher Creek, Mayerthorpe, Edson, Calgary (Currie Barracks), Lomond and Champion. She received her Bachelor of Education in 1975 in Lethbridge. Mary finished her 25 year teaching career in 1983 after teaching Grade one in Champion.
After meeting her future sister-in-law, Lois Burge (Lindsay) at Normal School, she was introduced to Allan Lindsay who took over the family farm next to Lake MacGregor in the Lomond district. They built a great life together. Mary contributed to enriching community life with her involvement and leadership in 4-H, Goodwill Club, Figure Skating Club, Lutheran Church and later, the Vulcan Golf Club.
Allan and Mary had a passion for travelling and Mary recalled having touched down in 50 airports in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Central and South America and Asia.
The family wishes to thank the thoughtful, attentive and caring Health professionals and caregivers at the Vulcan Community Health Centre and Peter Dawson Lodge, Rev. Sue MacDonald from the United Church, and dear friends who visited very often.
Mary is survived by a daughter Michelle (Gordon) Toombs, grandsons Aryn and Geoffrey Toombs, sister-in-law Vera Slater and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved very much.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Allan (Buck) Lindsay, as well as four siblings, Evelyn (Bill) McDougall, Winnie Munroe, Kate (Gid) Baumback and Alec Slater, four siblings-in-law Gerald Lindsay, Inez (Jim) Savage, Lois (Art) Burge and Fay (Duncan) Simpson.

Michelle and Family,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
My mother would speak of Mrs. Lindsay with admiration of a colleague who was much respected. When I met her, I could clearly see why. Your mother would always ask how things were at the library and she would always comment on the work I was doing. I could tell from her stories that she was very proud of all of you.
May the support of family and friends help to sustain you and the wonderful memories you have give you comfort at this time.
Vickie
Michelle and Family
My condolences and prayers are with you at this time. Your Mother’s long life reads so much the Canadian and Prairie life. Her stories must have been so very interesting. Take care. Pat McNamee
