MILTON LEWIS OF VULCAN, ALBERTA PASSED AWAY AT VULCAN EXTENDICARE FEBRUARY 9, 2001 AT THE AGE OF 86 YEARS.
MILTON WAS BORN ONE OF TEN CHILDREN ON JULY 15, 1914 AT TRAVERS, ALBERTA TO ALFRED AND BLANCHE LEWIS. HE GREW UP ON THE FAMILY FARM IN THE TRAVERS AREA AND ATTENDED SCHOOL THERE. AT A YOUNG AGE MILTON LEFT HOME AND WORKED AROUND THE ATHABASKA AREA. HE JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMY IN 1939 AND SERVED OVERSEAS. THERE HE MET AND MARRIED HIS WIFE JOAN WADDINGTON AT SUSSEX, ENGLAND IN JUNE OF 1943. THEY RETURNED IN 1946 AND MILTON BEGAN WORKING AT THE PICTURE BUTTE SUGAR FACTORY. THEY MOVED TO TRAVERS AND MILTON WORKED AT THE OGILVIE ELEVATOR AND THEN FOR THE BOW RIVER IRRIGATION DISTRICT. IN 1962 HE MOVED HIS FAMILY TO VULCAN TO A NEW JOB AT THE VULCAN SEED CLEANING PLANT, WHERE HE WORKED VERY HARD UNTIL RETIRING IN 1980.
MILTON LOVED HIS FAMILY, HE ESPECIALLY ENJOYED TIME WITH HIS GRANDCHILDREN, A GENTILE, HAPPY MAN WHO ENJOYED CHILDREN AROUND. HE ALSO LOVED HORSES AND KEPT THEM CLOSE WHERE HE COULD, OFTEN LOOK OUT FROM WORK AND SEE THEM, ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AT HIS GOOD FRIEND DON MITCHELL’S PLACE. MILTON WAS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP AT BRANDING TIME. HE HAD THE ABILITY TO TEACH HORSES TRICKS. HE ENJOYED WORKING WITH THEM, RIDING IN THE MOUNTAINS, CAMPING AND DRIVING AROUND THE COUNTRYSIDE.
MILTON HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION IN VAUXHALL AND LATER VULCAN SINCE THE WAR.
BELOVED FATHER OF THREE DAUGHTERS SHEILA (EDDIE) NOLTE OF VULCAN, ANNE (HARRY) GWINNER OF RED DEER AND OLIVE (BUTCH) GORZITZA OF BARONS, TWO SONS STANLEY (CARMEL) OF MILO AND PAT OF VULCAN, NINE GRANDCHILDREN DARCY, KAREN, CHARITY, ROBERT, CAROLYN, TOMMY, RON, GORD AND CHRIS, ELEVEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN HUNTER, KOURTNI, JUSTIN, HOLLY, JORDYN, McKENZIE, BRENNA, REAGAN, ANGELISE, HAYLEY AND ZACHARY, TWO BROTHERS-IN-LAW DON (JOAN) WADDINGTON AND FRANK WADDINGTON IN ENGLAND, A SISTER-IN-LAW AND LIFE LONG FRIEND MAE LEWIS OF PICTURE BUTTE, AUNT SADDIE MARSH, A COUSIN GRACE MELANDER IN THE STATES, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
MILTON WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS WIFE JOAN IN 1992, AN INFANT SON SPENCER IN 1946, HIS PARENTS, FIVE SISTERS EVELYN GAY, GLADYS MANNING, MILDRED PLUNKET, HAZEL “PEGGY” BENSON AND BLANCHE “SIS” LAFFERTY, FOUR BROTHERS OLIVER, ROY, MILO “SPIKE” AND LESLIE.
FUNERAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 14, 2001 AT 1:30 P.M. AT VULCAN UNITED CHURCH WITH SHIRLEY COLLARD D.M. OFFICIATING.
INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
