
Myrna Beryl Lawrence passed away peacefully at Whitecourt, AB on April 26, 2025.
Myrna was born on February 10, 1928 in Champion, AB to parents Caroline and Orrie Sommers. Myrna spent the majority of her life residing in the Champion and Vulcan areas.
Myrna is survived by her daughters Marjorie Bauer, Joanne (Norm) Leggatt, Bonnie Lawrence and their families, the children of Loreen Sommers, her oldest daughter, deceased in 2017 and her niece Linda Cool (Gordy Pye). Myrna is also predeceased by her parents, siblings Irene and Donald, and husband George Lawrence.
Myrna had three daughters by her first marriage, Loreen, Marjorie and Joanne. Myrna took accelerated training to become a teacher and taught Grades 2 and 8 in the Champion School and was many students’ favorite teacher. Myrna also taught piano lessons and occasionally played the organ for church services when called upon. Myrna then met and married George Lawrence and had her fourth daughter, Bonnie. The family moved to Vulcan, AB. Myrna worked in Vulcan at the Peter Dawson Lodge, Wright’s Pharmacy and Vulcan Hospital. Myrna spent her later years helping her brother Don on the farm.
Myrna and George lived in Vulcan for many years and Myrna loved to spend time helping her community through the Hospital Auxiliary, United Church and Vulcan Museum. Myrna was a life member of the Champion Legion Ladies Auxiliary and thoroughly enjoyed helping anywhere that she could.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced at that time. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Vulcan County Health and Wellness Foundation.
