Alexander Allan “Al” Laurie, beloved husband of the late Goldia, passed away September 14, 2005 at Vulcan, Alberta at the age of 83 years.

Al was born March 7, 1922 on the farm at Togo, Saskatchewan to James and Helen Laurie. He was the fourth of five children. Al joined the army in 1939 enlisting in the Canadian Forestry Corps. He was stationed in Scotland and drove trucks hauling timbers used to build the floating docks needed for after the invasion. When Al returned home he worked at various jobs over the years including in the Canadian North building ice roads on the frozen muskeg. He worked at one time for Hank Willard during his chuckwagon years and also George Nelson and Jack Sutherland of Milo and Bill Steiner of Arrowwood. Al met and married Goldia Stelten in 1976 and they contracted to be the caretakers of the Carseland fertilizer plant. They bought a lot in Arrowwood, moved in a mobile home and settled down to enjoy life.

Al was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #21 Vulcan for many years. He loved to go to the races with his friends and enjoyed traveling around visiting with relatives and friends.

Al is survived by a sister Joan Dixon of Roblin, Manitoba, a brother James Laurie of Detroit, Michigan, numerous nieces, nephews, step children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Goldia, brother Robert Laurie, sister Jean Finch and his parents.

Graveside service will be held Monday September 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge with Padre Doug Barrie of the Vulcan Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion officiating.

Casket Bearers Telford Dixon, Andrew Dixon, Greg Dixon, Garnett Dixon, Kerry Dixon and Jordan Dixon.
