KONNO, KATSUSHIGE “KATS” PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY APRIL 10, 1991 AT THE VULCAN GENERAL HOSPITAL AT THE AGE OF 67 YEARS.
KATS WAS BORN IN MISSION, BC ON JANUARY 31, 1924 WHERE HE RECEIVED HIS EDUCATION. HE CAME WITH HIS FAMILY TO ALBERTA IN 1942 AND IN 1944 HE WORKED IN MILK RIVER AT A GARAGE. HE MARRIED HELEN IWABUCHI ON APRIL 23, 1960. IN 1964, HE WORKED IN TABER FOR JOHN DEERE AS A PARTSMAN AND IN 1965, HE CAME TO VULCAN TO WORK AT THE JOHN DEERE DEALERSHIP AS PARTS MANAGER. HE LATER WORKED AT OTHER BUSINESSES IN TOWN AND MOST RECENTLY AT THE UFA PETROLEUM SUPPLY.
KATS ENJOYED HIS WORK AS A PARTSMAN. HE ALSO ENJOYED GARDENING, OF WHICH HE WAS VERY PARTICULAR. HE ALSO LOVED TRAVELLING, CAMPING, FISHING, GOLFING AND PLAYING CARDS. HE COACHED HIS SONS BASEBALL TEAM AND ENJOYED WATCHING THEM PLAY HOCKEY.
BELOVED HUSBAND OF MRS. HELEN KONNO OF VULCAN AND LOVING FATHER OF TWO SONS, TIMOTHY OF EDMONTON AND BRIAN AND HIS WIFE COLLEEN AND THEIR DAUGHTER CYNTHIA, ALL OF SURREY, BC. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY THREE SISTERS HISAKO (MAS) IWAMOTO OF COALHURST, SACHIKO (HARRY) IKEBUCHI OF TABER AND ANN KONNO OF CALGARY, THREE BROTHERS AKI (CHICK) KONNO OF FOREMOST, NAOZO (MARIE) KONNO OF SUMMERLAND, BC AND TUSTOMU KONNO OF CAMROSE, NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS MOTHER HARU IN 1960 AND FATHER YUKIO IN 1975.
FUNERAL SERVICE SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 1991 AT 2 PM AT VULCAN EVANGELICAL CHURCH WITH REV. DEAN HUBER OFFICIATING. INTERMENT VULCAN CEMETERY.
HONORARY PALLBEARERS WERE SIMON WIERSMA, PETER THIESSEN, RON GORZITZA, ED HARTUNG, GEORGE OKITA AND ALEX SCHNEIDER.
ACTIVE PALLBEARERS WERE NEPHEWS DOUG KONNO, DEAN IWAMOTO, GRANT KONNO, RICHARD IWABUCHI, JAMES IWABUCHI AND MARK POWER.
