Alice Knight, beloved wife of the late Wes Knight, passed away on February 8, 2007 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre at the age of 89 years.
Alice was born November 25. 1917 at Champion, Alberta to George and Rachel Taylor. She attended Champion and Vulcan schools. After graduating from high school Alice attended Calgary Normal School and taught in rural schools until she enlisted in the RCAFWD. She served at a Meteorological Observer and was stationed in Ottawa, Toronto and Calgary. Alice taught at Carmangay after being discharged. She met and married Wesley Knight on July 1, 1946. They farmed in the Burwash district west of Carmangay. They moved into Carmangay in 1961 but continued to farm. Alice returned to teaching as a substitute in 1960 and then taught Junior High for ten years. They retired from farming in 1980 and traveled extensively. They moved into Champion in 1992 and Wesley died suddenly in 1994. Alice moved into one of the Peter Dawson Villas at Vulcan in 1999 and into the Lodge a year later.
Alice loved teaching, especially grade one. Her hobbies centered around her love of sewing, creating and writing. Alice had a keen interest in history and took a course in Genealogy. She researched the Knight family’s past
Loving mother of a daughter Vickie (Mark) Smith of Calgary, two sons Ward (Connie) of Vulcan, Ian (Joanne) of Camrose, eight grand children Leslie (Rob Lahd) Knight, Darrel (Antoinette) Knight, Christopher (Mary Ellen) Knight, Lisa (Tim) Kennedy, Brady (Dave Rose) Knight, Jennifer Smith, Gregory (Marlena) Smith, Micheal Smith, three great grandchildren Tristan and Dustin Kennedy, Wyatt Knight, two honorary great grandchildren Natasha and Rory Lahd, two sisters Joyce (Robert) Fath of Champion, Shirley (Ossie) Overland of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Wesley, her parents George and Rachel Taylor, two sisters Violet (Ken) Robinson, Elsie (Ken) Bloxham, two brothers Jack (Irene) Taylor, Harry (Janet) Taylor and a nephew Fenton Bloxham.
Funeral service Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall at Vulcan with Rev. John Gibson and Rev. Doug Barrie officiating.
Casket bearers were Alice’s grandchildren.
Interment Champion Cemetery.
