Anna Leona Jones of Lomond, Alberta  passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2006.

Leona was born on June 21, 1928 at Arrowwood, Alberta to Glenn and Leona Field.  She attended school at Midway, northeast of Lomond, and Carseland.  Leona moved to Calgary in 1945 to take secretarial courses.  She started her first job at a wholesale drug store.  Leona married Marwood “Smokie” Jones in 1947.  They lived in Milo until 1959 when they moved to the farm in Lomond, where she raised chickens and sold eggs.  Leona managed the Grainland Hardware store for many years.  She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to Smokie play in his band, the Smoke Rings.  After 25 years Leona finally got to have a New Years dance with Smokie

Leona was a member of the Lomond Community Club for 54 years where she served as treasurer for 26 years.  She helped the Lomond Sunshine Drop-In Center organize their casino in Lethbridge.   Leona loved hosting Sunday dinners with family and friends.  She was a loyal friend and confidant and had a keen sense of humor.  Leona enjoyed knitting, crocheting,  baking, playing crib and bingo.

Loving mother of two daughters Linda (Desmond) Crawford of Rocky Mountain House, Leanne  Smith of Lethbridge, two sons Jim (Penny) of Lomond, Bob (Diane) of Rocky Mountain House, seven grandchildren Stephen Crawford of Rocky Mountain House, Denise (Ken) Slager of Caroline, Bryce and Cole Smith of Lethbridge, Craig Jones of Rocky Mountain House, Bruce Jones and Katrina (Brad) Koch both of Lomond; four great-grandchildren Zabrina and Dalton Slager of Caroline, McKenzie and Dakota Koch of Lomond, sister Dolly (Al) Lewis of Princeton, BC, brother Bob Field of Calgary,  numerous nieces and nephews.

Leona was predeceased by her husband Smokie in 2003, two grandsons David Crawford and Chad Jones, brother Jim Field and her parents.

Funeral service Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lomond with Rev. Ed Summers officiating.

Casket bearers Cole Smith, Bryce Smith, Craig Jones, Stephen Crawford, Bruce Jones, Ken Slager and Brad Koch.

Interment Lomond Cemetery.
