JAMISON, Ruby Julia  1916 – 2004

Ruby Julia Jamison passed away peacefully July 22, 2004 at the Vulcan Community Health Centre long-term care unit at the age of 87 years.

Ruby was born September 30, 1916 in Lethbridge, Alberta to “Joe” and “Vi” Collier. The family moved to Vulcan in 1918 where Ruby completed her high school. She entered nurses training at St. Eugene Hospital in Cranbrook, B.C and graduated in 1938. Ruby came to the Vulcan Hospital and worked full time until she married Nelson Jamison in 1942. Ruby continued to work part time as a nurse for many years. She enjoyed her wonderful retirement with Nelson traveling and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Ruby loved her family and friends, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting afghans and collecting dolls. In her younger years Ruby cooked for thrashing crews and later she worked shoulder to shoulder with Nelson , operating equipment on the farm without hesitation. She learned and later taught accordion lessons, as well as played piano and organ. Ruby was also a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Ruby is survived by her loving husband Nelson, daughter Ann (Wark) Boucher of Ottawa, Ontario, a son Boyd (Shelley) Jamison of Mazppa, Alberta, six grandchildren, Sean (Jane) Boucher of Los Angeles, Karin (Chris) Johnson of Ottawa, Jennilee, Jared, Justin, and Jaice Jamison of Mazppa, two great grandchildren Mackenzie Johnson and Sophie Boucher, a sister Nora (Stuart) Campbell of Vulcan a sister-in-law Pat Collier of Red Deer, numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was predeceased by her parents and two brothers Albert and Russell and his wife Blanche.

A memorial service was held Tuesday July 27, 2004 at 10:30 A.M at Vulcan United Church with Sue MacDonald D.M. officiating. Inurement to take place at a later date in the Vulcan Cemetery Columbarium.

Honorary bearers were Peggy and Brian Todd, Mo and Peter Pickersgill, Isabel Graham and Dorothy Myers.

In lieu of flowers, tributes in Ruby’s memory can be made to the Vulcan Community Health Centre Long Term Care Unit Box 299, Vulcan T0L 2B0.
